Partnership between Candide and Pop Mart brings original figures to Brazilian retail after social media craze, replica surge, and high demand for collectibles.

The official arrival of Labubu figures in Brazil promises to shake up the collectibles market starting in June, following a strong wave of counterfeits in the country.

The characters, created in 2015 by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, will be sold through a partnership between Candide and Pop Mart, the Chinese company that owns the brand.

The confirmation was made by Candide this Tuesday (26), as informed to g1. Sales are expected to start on June 5th.

The initial operation will feature 30 different products, with prices ranging from R$ 299.99 to R$ 799.99, according to the company.

Eccentric look turned Labubu into a social media craze

The Labubus gained prominence due to their unusual look, marked by an eccentric appearance, plush format, and serrated teeth.

Celebrities like Rihanna, Maya Massafera, Virginia Fonseca, and Marina Ruy Barbosa have already been seen with the figures hanging on bags.

Exposure on social media quickly increased interest in the characters and strengthened the demand for original products.

The appeal among fans of fashion, pop culture, and collectible items helped turn the figures into objects of desire.

Surprise boxes increase collectors’ interest

The original Labubus are sold in surprise boxes, a format in which the buyer discovers the character only after opening the package.

This dynamic makes each purchase more unpredictable, as the box may contain common models or rare versions of the collection.

The system also strengthened the logic of collection, exchange, and resale among consumers interested in the characters.

Following the partnership with Pop Mart, the Labubus helped the Chinese manufacturer earn over US$ 2.3 billion, according to Forbes.

Counterfeits gained space before the official sale

Pop Mart products were not yet officially sold in Brazil, which opened space for a strong circulation of replicas.

The social media craze increased demand, while counterfeit versions became easily found in the national market.

According to g1, in June 2025, an original Labubu cost up to US$ 300, about R$ 1,6 thousand.

In the 25 de Março region, in São Paulo, replicas were sold for values between R$ 65 and R$ 250, as the portal showed.

Candide bets on official sale and expanded access

The partnership between Candide and Pop Mart marks the formal entry of Labubus into Brazilian retail.

According to Moise Candi, CEO of Candide, the time has come to offer the official experience to the Brazilian consumer.

The executive stated that the proposal involves wide access and the quality represented by the brand.

The official debut may change the relationship of fans with the characters, especially in a market already heated by copies and resales.

The big question now is direct: will official prices be able to reduce the strength of counterfeit versions in Brazil?
