On Tuesday (30), a video featuring Captains Javier and Juan Carlos Nieto Quintero took social media by storm and quickly spread across the internet.

The USA and Ukraine signed an agreement in 2025 that gives Washington priority access to lithium, titanium, uranium, and rare earths in exchange for military aid. The country, which has one-third of Europe’s lithium reserves and 7% of the continent’s titanium, is negotiating sovereignty over resources worth trillions using geological maps made by the Soviet Union 60 years ago.

The USA classifies PCC and Comando Vermelho as terrorists, targets asset freeze and material support, but the decision opens a diplomatic crisis with Brazil and reignites alert over sovereignty, sanctions, and the fight against organized crime in a year of national political tension.

China, European Union, Mexico, South Korea, Canada, and other markets tighten the siege against Brazilian agribusiness: soybeans, beef, chicken, eggs, and live animals are targeted by sanitary barriers, environmental rules, and requirements that expose Brazil’s billion-dollar dependence on foreign buyers.
In the video, the captains urge the Venezuelan Armed Forces to recognize Edmundo González as the newly elected president, challenging the authority of current president Nicolás Maduro.
“We, Captains Javier and Juan Carlos Nieto Quintero, members of the Batalla de Mosquitero and Batalla de Los Pinos promotions, address the entire body of generals and admirals, officers, non-commissioned officers, and troops of the National Armed Forces to persuade them to make the right decisions in this historical moment our Homeland is experiencing. (…) It’s time to make the right decisions at a historic moment (…) It’s clear that we have a new elected president”, say Javier and Juan Carlos in the video.
Upon learning about the video, Elon Musk shared it and remarked: “If this gains traction, the legitimately elected president will replace the fraudster”, he stated. However, reports have surfaced raising doubts about the veracity of the captains’ statements.
According to alerts from the social network X and sources like Infobae and Foro Penal, the captains are no longer active. Juan Carlos Nieto Quintero, in particular, has been mentioned as someone who has allegedly been imprisoned and tortured by the Venezuelan government and is reportedly out of the country.
International Reactions and Brazil’s Position
The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela announced Nicolás Maduro as the winner of the elections, but the Organization of American States (OAS) did not recognize the outcome.
In a report released on Tuesday (30), the OAS claimed that the electoral process was marked by significant irregularities, including delays in result publication and allegations of vote distortion.
The OAS emphasized that the CNE, dominated by government allies, declared Maduro the winner without providing detailed data to prove the result, raising doubts about the integrity of the electoral process. The report also mentioned reports of “illegalities, vices, and bad practices”, with the Venezuelan government being accused of implementing a repressive scheme to manipulate the electoral outcome.
Brazilian Government’s Reaction
In response to the crisis, the Brazilian government expressed itself through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In a statement released on Monday (29), Brazil praised the “peaceful character” of the election but stated that it would only take a definitive position after the publication of the minutes with the voting data.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva downplayed concerns, stating that there was nothing “serious” or “alarming” in the elections. In a conversation with Maduro, former Chancellor Celso Amorim, a special advisor to the Presidency sent to monitor the voting, reinforced the request for the minutes, and the government will only comment after an internal review.
“There’s a fight; how will you resolve this fight? Present the minutes. If the minutes raise doubts between the opposition and the situation, the opposition files a resource and will wait for the court to take the process. Then there will be a decision that we have to abide by. I am convinced it’s a normal, calm process,” said President Lula.
