The Civil Defense conducted a inspection on this Monday, the 15th, to assess the conditions of the unit after the incident, in coordination with the Fire Department.
What Is Known About the Fire at the Nestlé Factory in Araras
The fire started on the wood chip transport conveyor that feeds the plant’s boiler, located in the outdoor area of the industrial complex in Araras. The information was confirmed by the Fire Department and SSP-SP.
The call to the fire department occurred around 3:48 PM, with five fire trucks deployed. The flames were contained, and then the teams moved on to mopping up.
Nestlé reported that there were no people at the site of the incident and emphasized that the production area was not affected, remaining safe. The company also highlighted its own emergency protocols and equipment redundancy.
Operation Maintained and Response from Authorities
According to the company, the factory operation was not impacted, thanks to backup equipment that allows continuity of production even in the face of specific events. This position was reiterated to the specialized press and to national media in the hours following the incident.
The Civil Defense monitored the work of the Fire Department and returned to the site on Monday for a technical inspection, a standard step in industrial occurrences of this type, in order to assess structure, residual risks, and preventive measures.
In addition to public teams, Nestlé itself mobilized internal security and maintenance teams to check the integrity of systems and prevent rekindling, a common procedure in fires involving biomass.
Importance of the Araras Unit, Production, and History
The Araras factory is one of the most traditional in the group in Brazil. Inaugurated in 1921 to produce condensed milk, the plant today is responsible for high-turnover items such as soluble coffee (Nescafé) and powdered chocolate.
In recent months, the company announced an investment of R$ 1 billion by 2028 to modernize and expand operations at the unit, reinforcing the strategic relevance of the site for the beverage and powdered food chain.
With hundreds of employees and strong ties with regional suppliers, the operational stability of the plant is closely monitored by the municipality and state agencies, especially during dry weather and the risk of wildfires in the interior of São Paulo.
