New automatic detection identifies videos created with realistic AI without altering reach, recommendations, or platform algorithm functionality
YouTube announced this Wednesday (27) a new measure aimed at identifying content produced with artificial intelligence. The decision expands control over videos considered realistic and reinforces the transparency strategy adopted by the platform since 2024.
Videos created with significant use of AI may receive automatic labels even when creators do not disclose the use of the technology. According to YouTube, the measure seeks to make the presence of artificially generated content within the platform clearer.
Information released on the company’s official blog shows that internal systems will start to automatically detect materials considered realistic. If the tool identifies relevant use of artificial intelligence, the label will be applied directly to the video.

Automated system expands policy initiated by YouTube in 2024
Policies related to identifying AI-made content began to be implemented by YouTube throughout 2024. During that period, the platform started to request that creators inform when they used artificial intelligence tools in video production.
The new stage announced this week reduces the exclusive reliance on statements made by users. Automated systems will take on part of the verification to identify content produced or digitally modified.
Creators who disagree with the labeling can contest the decision. According to YouTube, there will be a possibility of review if the automatic labeling is considered incorrect.
YouTube ensures that the algorithm and video reach will remain the same
The application of new labels will not impact the functioning of the recommendation algorithm, as informed by the platform itself. Videos identified as AI-created content will continue to be distributed normally to users.
The position disclosed by YouTube reinforces that the measure’s objective is linked to transparency, not automatic punishment of creators who use technological tools in their productions.
Labeled content will also not lose reach just for presenting elements produced by artificial intelligence. The platform states that recommendations will follow the same criteria previously used.
Advancement of artificial intelligence pressures digital platforms
Rapid growth of artificial intelligence tools is increasing the difficulty in differentiating human content from artificial productions. Videos, music, and digital characters are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
Spotify has also adopted similar measures recently. At the end of April, the platform launched the label “Verified by Spotify”, created to indicate that a particular artist or group is likely human.
Movement of digital platforms demonstrates growing concern with the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence and the challenges related to identifying this type of content.
Change promises to increase transparency for users and creators
Main practical change involves the automatic identification of videos produced with realistic AI. Creators who omit this information may receive labels applied directly by the platform’s systems.
Users will have more clarity about content created or modified artificially. Strategy adopted by YouTube also seeks to keep up with technological advancement without altering distribution, reach, or recommendation of the videos.
Expansion of artificial intelligence tools continues to transform digital production at an accelerated pace. Will transparency be enough to maintain user trust in this new technological scenario?
