São Mateus Mega Port Projects Alongside Thermoelectric Plants and Railway Are Advancing and Will Start Generating Jobs as Soon as Next Year
The construction works of the port of the São Mateus Port Center in Espírito Santo have attracted attention not only from workers in the state but all over Brazil, as the total creation of job vacancies will reach 10,300 when all projects are combined.
Hiring is expected to begin next year, and the project has been monitored here by your Click Oil and Gas portal, including as we reported, yesterday (02/08) a public hearing was scheduled for the entire society to learn about and discuss details of the project.
There are plans to create 2,500 job vacancies in the construction and 3,000 in the operation of the Mega Port, and the project is awaiting environmental licensing from Iema, expected this month of August, and installation licensing, expected by July 2020, to start the works.

The São Mateus Port Center (CPSM), a project of Petrocity and Odebrecht, in São Mateus, in the north of Espírito Santo state, is also expected to boost the construction of a power plant with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts, a project by Badin Energia, which will generate about 50 direct jobs, 40 in construction, and eight to 10 in operation.
Badin is also responsible for the installation works of two power generation plants, one gas thermal and the other photovoltaic.
The company’s director, Rodrigo Badin, is optimistic regarding the approval of the environmental license and stated: “We still need the environmental license, which will enable us to participate in a federal government energy auction. But it is a project unlike any other in Brazil, and if the government does not approve this, it will not approve anything else.”
The energy generated by Badin’s plants, in addition to supplying Petrocity, will be distributed to industries in the vicinity of São Mateus, and the surplus will be auctioned.
It is estimated that the construction of these two plants will generate 1,100 direct job vacancies, and the operation will generate about 150 vacancies.
Railway
In addition to the Mega Port and the plants, Petrocity plans to build a 560-kilometer railway, connecting São Mateus to Sete Lagoas, in Minas Gerais.
Only in the first phase of the Railway, which will reach the city of Ipatinga (MG), 3,500 direct jobs will be created, between installation and operation.
Thinking about the qualification of workers in the region, Petrocity will technologically train 3,000 young people by the end of 2020, so they can work on the company’s projects or even in other ventures in the region.
The project is for low-income young people, with completed elementary education, aged between 15 and 21, who belong to families already registered in the unified social programs registry.
