Portugal “hides” gold reserves of 382 tons valued at 47 billion euros in an armored building, and the story involves gold from colonial Brazil, Nazi Germany, and a fortune that once amounted to 866 tons.
The regional director of Ciesp, José Francisco Caseiro, evaluated and said: “The export volume demonstrates the process of recovery of the regional industry. Part of this result is motivated by the diversified profile of the companies present in Alto Tietê, which include steel, chemical, pulp sectors, and many others that position the region as one of the main productive hubs in the State. It is important to emphasize that the import index also shows the growth of industrial activity”.
The main products exported in 2022 were machines, mechanical devices, and instruments, which accounted for 21.8% of sales. Paper and cardboard came in a bit behind at 21%, while machines, electrical devices, and materials were at 8%. However, imports were dominated by machines, mechanical devices, and instruments at 22%, vehicles and tractors at 16.8%, and pharmaceutical products at 8.7%.
The main purchases of the regional industry sector were from China at 18.7%, Germany at 12.7%, and Japan at 14.4%. Thus, the trade balance of Alto Tietê also had a strong impact on state performance. São Paulo exported US$74.370 billion, with a total of 29.5%, which is greater than the year 2021 when it exported US$57.419 million. Thus, the import balance previously was US$67.214 million and increased to US$81.566 million, reflecting a rise of 21.4%.
