With Highly Automated Production, Chint Factory Produces 1.7 Million Solar Cells Per Day and Prepares Expansion with New Plants in Brazil
The Astronergy factory, located in Wenzhou, China, impresses with its numbers and technology. Responsible for producing solar panel cells, the unit manages to manufacture 1.7 million of these components every day. Owned by Chint, a giant in the electrical sector, the facility operates almost entirely automated, with robots functioning continuously, 24 hours a day.
The human presence in the factory is minimal. Only about 300 workers are present on-site, all focused on equipment maintenance. The manufacturing process itself is conducted entirely by machines.
Before automation, around 1,000 people were needed to check for possible damages in the solar cells. Today, this task is handled by sensors in just one second.

Brazilian scientists are simultaneously advancing two research projects on clean hydrogen and driving solutions that could transform the energy matrix, enhance industrial competitiveness, and accelerate large-scale emission reduction targets.

Advancement in renewable energy: A R$ 150 million project launched by Petrobras and Finep aims to create state-of-the-art electrolyzers for green hydrogen, strengthening national research and preparing Brazil to compete in a billion-dollar energy market.

Illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers were trained to repair solar systems, open rural workshops, and light up homes that still depended on kerosene.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
The quality of the production is also noteworthy. According to data presented by the company, 98.5% of the cells produced are classified as quality A, the highest grade. Another 1.4% are quality B, while only 0.1% are considered C.
Even those with lower classification can still be sold. The loss rate on the production line is almost nonexistent: only 0.01% of the cells are discarded due to damage.
During a visit to the site, Chint executives revealed to Poder360 that there are plans for expansion in Brazil. The company intends to install two factories in the country, but neither will be focused on solar panel production.
The first unit is set to open in July 2025, in Manaus, focusing on the manufacture of electric meters. The second factory, still without a specific start date for operations, will produce medium and high voltage distribution boards. The expectation is that this second unit will begin operations by 2029.
The location for this new factory has yet to be determined, but Minas Gerais stands out as the favored state to host the venture. The final choice, according to executives, will be made in the coming years.
In 2024, Chint achieved a revenue of US$ 25 billion, a value 15% higher than the previous year. The total profit was US$ 2 billion.
The company operates in over 140 countries and is a global leader in solar panel exports. It is also the company with the most photovoltaic equipment installed in homes worldwide.
