Itapema Fort, a construction of nearly 500 years and very close to the capital, is about to begin a new chapter in its history.
After almost five centuries, the space will come to life as a cultural center focused on art, gastronomy, tourism, and professional training.
The project, a result of a partnership between the KondZilla Institute, the City Hall of Guarujá, and organizations from the third sector, aims to revitalize the fort and transform it into a creative hub that combines tradition and innovation.

From Fortress To Cultural Symbol
Built in the 16th century to protect the coast of Santos, the Itapema Fort was erected on rocks by the sea and served different functions over the centuries — from a gunpowder depot to an observation post during World War II.
Abandoned after the 1950s, the site suffered from deterioration caused by time and sea air.
New Phase By 2026
The restoration work began in 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The project includes the reconstruction of the walls, new gathering areas, lighting, and accessibility.
Among the planned attractions are the Museum of Guarujá History, a gastronomic hub with caiçara cuisine, spaces for shows and exhibitions, and the KondZilla Creative Hub, which will offer training in audiovisual arts for local youth.
With the revitalization, the Itapema Fort will become a meeting point between the past and the future, consolidating itself as one of the new cultural attractions of the Paulist coast.
