The FPSO P-82 Platform Will Be Petrobras’ New Bet for Its Búzios Field Exploration Campaign. ABB Will Supply Sembcorp Marine with the Automation Electric System for the Vessel Construction Project.
Petrobras’ campaign to expand its presence in the Santos Basin is becoming increasingly intense this year. This Friday, (04/28), ABB joined the construction project for the new FPSO P-82 platform, being responsible for supplying the electric system automation for the vessel to the company Sembcorp Marine. The vessel is Petrobras’ major bet for production in the Búzios Field in the coming years.
Sembcorp Marine Orders Complete Electric System Automation for the P-82, Petrobras’ New FPSO Platform for the Santos Basin from ABB
Sembcorp Marine from Singapore has ordered ABB to provide the complete electric system automation for the FPSO P-82.
The platform is Petrobras’ new bet for operation in the Brazilian offshore region in the coming years. It will be deployed in the Búzios field, in ultra-deep waters of the Santos Basin, about 180 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

There is oil below the oil that Brazil already extracts: Petrobras confirmed a new accumulation in the Búzios field, at a depth of 5,600 meters, in a zone below the reservoir already operating in the Santos Basin.

404 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, an oil company drilled 5,855 meters into the ocean and discovered the largest oil and gas reserve found in a quarter of a century.
ABB is supplying the electrical systems for the topside and hull side for the P-82.
According to the statement, the topside systems will be installed in an ABB eHouse solution – a pre-fabricated modular substation that the company claims reduces costs, risk exposure, and on-site work.
Additionally, once operational, the FPSO will be capable of producing 225,000 barrels of oil per day, along with a processing capacity of 12 million cubic meters of gas per day.
Petrobras plans to deploy 18 offshore FPSO vessels in Brazil over the next four years, thereby expanding its presence in the national oil and gas sector.
ABB’s entry into the construction project of the new FPSO reinforces the state-owned company’s commitment, together with Sembcorp Marine, to use cutting-edge technology in the new vessel.
The goal of the venture is to elevate the oil company to an even higher level in the national fuel market.
State-Owned Company Invests in the Construction Project of the New FPSO Platform at Búzios Field with Sembcorp Marine and ABB to Meet Market Demands
Petrobras has been heavily investing in advanced technologies to increase oil and gas production and reduce carbon emissions in light of growing demand in the global market.
The deployment of new offshore FPSO vessels in Brazil is an important step in Petrobras’ strategy to increase production and reduce carbon emissions.
With the help of Sembcorp Marine and ABB, the company is creating a fleet of modern and efficient vessels equipped with advanced automation and electrical energy technologies.
Overall, the partnership between Sembcorp Marine and ABB in the construction of the FPSO P-82 is a victory for the oil and gas industry, as it helps make production more efficient and modern.
This collaboration is expected to continue in the future as Petrobras continues to invest in new projects and technologies to boost its production in the Búzios Field with the new FPSO.
