Fatal Accident on BR-040 Between João Pinheiro and Paracatu Involves Car Carrier and Kills Four People from the Same Family.
A fatal accident involving a passenger car and a car carrier killed four people from the same family on BR-040, on the stretch between João Pinheiro and Paracatu, in the Northwest of Minas Gerais, in the early hours of Wednesday (31).
The incident occurred when the truck crossed into oncoming traffic and hit head-on the vehicle where the victims were, who died at the scene.
The accident raises the alert about the series of serious occurrences on the highway, as this is the third fatal record in just a few days on the same stretch.

Accident Dynamics on BR-040
According to information from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the car carrier, with license plates from Betim, was heading toward Brasília–João Pinheiro when, for reasons still under investigation, it crossed over to the opposite lane.
At that moment, the truck collided head-on with a car registered in João Pinheiro.
With the force of the impact, both vehicles were thrown off the road. Soon after the collision, the car caught fire, preventing any attempt to rescue the occupants.
The couple and two children who were in the car died instantly, marking another fatal accident on the BR-040, a highway that crosses important regions of Minas Gerais.
Victims and Assistance at the Scene
According to the PRF, the bodies of the victims were collected and sent to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML), where they undergo identification and release procedures for the families.
The tragedy caused great commotion in João Pinheiro, the hometown of the victims.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car carrier received assistance at the scene from teams of the concessionaire Via Cristais.
Subsequently, the rescuers took him to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) of João Pinheiro. So far, there is no official information about his health condition.
Third Fatal Accident in a Few Days
This Wednesday’s case adds to a concerning sequence of serious occurrences on the stretch of BR-040 between João Pinheiro and Paracatu.
Last Sunday (28), another fatal accident shocked the region.
On that occasion, a 22-year-old entrepreneur and a couple with two children, aged 4 and 8, died after a collision recorded near Paracatu.
A few days earlier, on the 19th, a doctor lost her life in another accident involving two cars and a truck, also on the same highway and near Paracatu.
The successive records raise an alert for drivers and authorities regarding traffic conditions and road safety in the area.
History of Tragedies on the Stretch
In addition to recent cases, BR-040 had already been the scene of a similar tragedy in December 2024.
That month, an entire family died after an accident involving a car and a truck in Paracatu.
The victims were a couple and two children, only 1 month and 11 years old.
This history reinforces the perception that the stretch between João Pinheiro and Paracatu has a high number of serious accidents.
Traffic experts emphasize that factors such as heavy truck traffic, long stretches of single lanes, and recklessness can contribute to this scenario.
Alert for Safety on the Highway
In light of the repetition of fatal accidents, the Federal Highway Police emphasizes the importance of heightened attention while traveling on BR-040.
Improper overtaking, speeding, and fatigue while driving are among the main causes of head-on collisions.
As investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of Wednesday’s accident, residents and regular users of the highway are calling for measures to reduce the number of deaths.
Suggestions include improvements in signage, more intense enforcement, and investments in road infrastructure.
Thus, in João Pinheiro, there is a renewed urgency for effective actions to prevent more families from becoming victims of tragedies on the BR-040.
