After Seven Decades In The Glass House, Ford Begins Move To New Headquarters In Dearborn, Designed For Innovation, Wellbeing And Attracting Top Talents
The Ford Motor Co. is preparing a significant shift in its trajectory. For the first time in 70 years, the manufacturer will leave its historic headquarters, known as the “Glass House,” to occupy a new building in Dearborn, Michigan.
The transfer will take place in November, when the 195,096 square meter space will be inaugurated.
The new building, now called “Ford World Headquarters,” is part of the campus named Henry Ford II World Center.

The BYD Tai S Ti7 bets on a boxy design and could become the top-of-the-line model in Brazil with 488 hp, over 70 kgfm of torque, 0 to 100 in 4.9 seconds, 5.1 meters in length, and a range exceeding 900 km.
The name honors the grandson of the company’s founder and uncle of Bill Ford, the current executive chairman.
End Of The Glass House Era
Inaugurated in 1956, the headquarters located at 1 American Road marked an era. At that moment, Ford emphasized that it was one of the largest buildings occupied by a single company in the United States.
Now, the building will be demolished. The company plans to complete the move of teams by the first half of 2026, while the demolition of the external structure will begin in 2027.
According to Ford, even the address will be transferred to the new facility.
Structure Focused On Innovation
The new complex, located just minutes away from the old headquarters, was designed to encourage collaboration among executives, engineers, and designers.
It is estimated that 14,000 employees will be just a 15-minute walk from the main building.
The facility features six design studios, more than 300 meeting rooms equipped with modern technology, a spacious cafeteria of 14,864 square meters, as well as wellness areas and spaces dedicated to mothers.
Attracting New Talents
Bill Ford believes that the move will be strategic in making the company more attractive. “To attract the best talents, it is essential to offer them interesting problems to solve and great places to work,” he stated.
According to him, Ford now combines both elements: relevant challenges and quality spaces.
The transformation occurs in parallel with another important decision in the automotive sector: General Motors also announced the departure from its iconic headquarters along the Detroit River to occupy new offices in the city center.
Memories And Legacy In Dearborn
The site where the new headquarters was built already has significant historical relevance. It was home to the old Product Development Center, inaugurated in 1953, with remote presence from then-President Dwight Eisenhower, in one of the first closed-circuit television broadcasts.
Renowned models, such as Mustang, Thunderbird, and the F-Series trucks, originated in that space.
Ford’s Connection To The City
The relationship between Dearborn and the company is so deep that they have become inseparable in the popular imagination.
“If you think of Dearborn, you think of Ford. If you think of Ford, you think of Dearborn,” declared Ted Ryan, the company’s heritage and brand manager.
He further highlighted the founder family’s connection to the region. Henry Ford was born just a few miles from the headquarters, and his descendants have always viewed the building as an extension of their own home.
New Chapter
With the planned move, the manufacturer opens space for a different cycle. Employees and visitors will soon leave behind the grandeur of the Glass House and experience life in a completely new structure, designed for the future of the brand.
