In the first nine months of last year, about 1,500 Brazilian professionals chose Germany as their destination for international careers, raising the total number of Brazilians residing in the country to approximately 44,710, according to the most recent data compiled by the German consulate in Brazil in 2022. In that same year, the four German consulates in Brazil issued a total of 3,055 visas, of which 1,946 were for qualified work. This type of visa is granted to professionals who have relevant academic or professional qualifications and have obtained permission to reside in the European country in search of job openings.
These numbers reflect a growing interest among Brazilians in seeking job opportunities and professional development in Germany, a country known for its strong economy and advanced opportunities in the skilled labor sector.
What Visas Are Required To Participate In The Jobs In Germany For Brazilians
Regarding the first nine months of 2023, the latest data compiled related to visa issuance for the country shows 2,343 visas, of which 1,439 were for skilled work job openings. Besides this, other types of visas are issued depending on the profile of the applicant:

This opening originates from the shortage of professionals in specific functions, such as nursing, since, according to the project manager for pre-integration at the Goethe Institute in Brazil, Carla Pereira, there is a labor shortage in some areas and the German government needs this workforce.
How To Apply For Job Openings In Germany?
For those looking to work abroad, the first step is to understand whether the profession is regulated or not in the country. Depending on this, diploma recognition may be dispensable. Pereira also emphasizes that the level of proficiency in the language will also depend on the position the worker will hold; however, generally, the minimum is B1.
At higher levels, such as C1, fluency in German may be required, especially for careers that deal directly with the public, such as teachers or doctors. In the case of nursing specifically, Brazilian professionals who will work in Germany must take a supplementary course to obtain equivalence.
After fulfilling these steps, the professional can apply for the visa. The German consulate explains that before professionals request a qualified worker visa for the job openings in Germany for Brazilians, it is necessary to obtain official recognition of their professional qualifications. The recognition is done by competent authorities in Germany, and interested parties can find information about this step at the Federal Government Data Portal.

The German consulate in Brazil explains that there has been a change in German law to facilitate access to job openings in Germany for Brazilians, with the creation of the Skilled Workers Immigration Act. In Brazil, interested parties can receive free mentoring and support through the pre-integration project by the Goethe Institute, which is funded by the European Union.
