Google has begun a phased rollout of Android Auto 14.4, an update that should reach all compatible smartphones in the coming weeks. This information was shared by the portal T3. According to Google, there are currently over 250 million cars that support Android Auto, in addition to 50 models with Google built-in; these vehicles are about to become smarter with the arrival of Gemini, Google’s AI, to Android Auto.
Although it doesn’t bring visible changes right away, the version incorporates the necessary code to display climate controls (temperature, ventilation, and seat heating) directly in the Android Auto interface, preventing the driver from having to switch to the vehicle’s native system.
The company also chose to suspend the controversial redesign of the media buttons tested in the beta versions, a change that had faced criticism for making play/pause and skip track less accessible. In the stable build, the commands remain in the traditional format, indicating a temporary retreat in response to negative feedback.

As usual, the rollout will be staggered: devices still on version 14.2 will receive the new version gradually. Google is expected to detail the activation schedule for climate features and the future arrival of the Gemini assistant in an official announcement in the coming weeks.
5 Useful Upgrades That Android Auto Will Receive for Free with the Arrival of Gemini
The integration of Gemini, Google’s new AI assistant, into Android Auto is not limited to replacing Google Assistant. It brings five practical functions, all free, that promise to make journeys smarter and safer, according to what ZDNet revealed:
- Find Restaurants on the Way
Say: “Find burger joints along the route.” Gemini generates a list with ratings, hours, and then opens the route in Google Maps. - Practice Important Conversations
Say: “I need to talk to my boss about a promotion; how should I approach this?” The AI suggests arguments, tone, and structure of the dialogue—without taking your hands off the wheel. - Automatically Translate Messages
Set up: “Always send messages to Maria in Spanish.” Next time, Gemini drafts the text already adapted to the language, preserving context and informality. - Search Emails in Gmail
Forgot the address of your child’s game? Ask, and the assistant will search the inbox, returning the date, location, and time contained in the email. - Read Your Agenda for the Day
Before parking, ask for a summary of Google Calendar. Gemini will dictate appointments, avoiding distractions with screen taps.
In addition to these new features, Google confirmed that the catalog of in-car entertainment apps will be expanded and that the digital key will start to work with more brands, such as Audi, Volvo, and Polestar. The rollout of Gemini will begin “in the coming months” for the 250 million cars compatible with Android Auto; vehicles with Google integrated, such as Lincoln Nautilus, Renault R5, and Honda Passport, will receive it by the end of the year.
Important Update – Google Announces Gemini Expansion in Android Auto
During the Android Show, held just before the Google I/O 2025 conference, the company officially confirmed the arrival of Gemini, its generative artificial intelligence, in Android Auto. The promise is one of the biggest transformations in driving experience in recent years. This information was reported by Correio Braziliense.
According to Patrick Brady, Vice President of Android for Cars, Gemini will bring a much more natural interaction, without the need for robotic commands, as well as make driving more productive, fun, and intuitive.
Among the new features is “Gemini Live”, where the AI remains active, capable of carrying on full conversations about various topics, from travel tips to food suggestions, without distracting the driver. The AI will also provide automatic translation of messages, route location suggestions, and email and agenda readings, all with more natural and intelligent voice commands.
Initially, Gemini will operate in the cloud, both on Android Auto and in vehicles with Google Built-In, but the company is working with manufacturers so that, in the future, the AI can operate directly in the cars, leveraging data from sensors and cameras.
Additionally, the AI will be available in over 40 languages, making the experience accessible and personalized for millions of drivers around the world.
With this update, Android Auto and cars with integrated Google are definitively entering the era of generative artificial intelligence, offering a safer, more efficient, and connected experience.
