In Contrast to the Futuristic Look of Elon Musk’s Cybertruck, a Manufacturer Backed by Jeff Bezos Unveiled an Electric Pickup with a More Accessible and Functional Proposal. The Model Focuses on Simplicity, Robustness, and Competitive Pricing to Serve Consumers Seeking Practical Electric Vehicles for Daily Use, Without Giving Up Efficiency and Sustainability. The Strategy Targets a Segment that Wants Innovation Without Design or Cost Extremes.
Slate Auto, an electric vehicle startup backed by Jeff Bezos, unveiled its new electric pickup last Thursday. The company’s gamble is to offer a basic model that attracts both minimalist buyers and those seeking affordable prices.
The vehicle is the complete opposite of the Tesla Cybertruck, from Elon Musk’s Tesla, which is known for its innovative design and futurista.
Simple and Functional Design
The entry model from Slate focuses on simplicity. The vehicle features a basic dashboard with physical buttons for heating and air conditioning controls, as well as crank windows.

To listen to music, the car offers only a phone holder. Infotainment systems and speakers are not standard items but can be added as accessories provided by the company.
Another curious detail is that the vehicle does not come painted from the factory. Buyers will have the option to wrap it in different colors.
Additionally, the original configuration, a two-seater pickup, can be transformed into a five-seater SUV via a special kit.
Range and Capacity
The electric pickup from Slate will be available in two battery options. The first, with 52.7 kilowatt-hours, offers a range of about 240 kilometers. The second, larger option, features 84.3 kWh and allows for up to 385 kilometers.
The load capacity is also noteworthy. The truck bed measures 1.5 meters in length and provides 9.2 cubic meters of space.
The front cargo area, known as the “frunk”, adds another 2.1 cubic meters of capacity.
Price and Expectations
Reservations for the new vehicle are already open in the United States. Interested parties can secure their unit with a refundable deposit of US$ 50.
The company’s expectation is that the final price, already including the US$ 7,500 federal tax credit for clean vehicles, will be below US$ 20,000. Deliveries are expected to begin at the end of 2026.
