Daniel Erthal Exchanges TV for Beverage Sales in Rio

Daniel Erthal, an actor known for his work on TV and a remarkable stint on Malhação, began working as a street vendor selling beverages in Rio de Janeiro and, according to public reports from the artist himself, he has already reached high revenue and profit on busy days.

The change in routine gained prominence starting in 2024, when videos of him pushing carts with drinks in Copacabana spread across social media, increasing demand for the sales point.

With the visibility, the actor also put into action an expansion plan: he opened a bar in the Botafogo neighborhood, in the South Zone, and started alternating the management of the space with street work on days with heavy tourist and local traffic, such as New Year’s Eve and Carnival.

Videos in Copacabana and the Increase in Demand

Daniel Erthal’s entry into street commerce began with a lean structure based on physical effort.

In recordings shared by him and reported by the press, the actor is seen selling beers and other drinks in thermal carts along the beach, in a routine that often occupies long periods of the day and requires constant replenishment of ice and supplies.

The digital repercussions had a direct impact on the business’s movement.

People who already knew his work on television began to seek out the street vendor to buy from him and also to greet him, which increased traffic at the sales point and made the trade more known in the area.

When introducing the venture, Erthal adopted the name “Ilha da Sede” as the brand for the service.

In interviews and publications, he has described the activity as one that depends on planning purchases, stock control, and attention to service, as well as availability to work on consecutive days.

Revenue and Profit: What the Actor Said in Interviews

The most cited numbers about the earnings came directly from the actor in interviews and appearances on online shows.

In one of these statements, Erthal claimed he reached R$ 11,000 in a single day, while discussing the impact of the increased clientele after the videos went viral.

At another moment, while commenting on a work night during Carnival, he presented a calculation based on the volume sold and the costs of the shift.

“I sold 700 beers and, if you put a ticket at R$ 10 and cover the costs, I made roughly around R$ 4,000,” he said, detailing the routine of the event.

In the same statement, he also described the working hours as a shift that stretched into the early morning, from the start of the night until the morning.

The information about revenue and profit, therefore, is associated with reports from Erthal himself and specific situations of high demand.

There is no detailed spreadsheet of fixed and variable costs in the most publicized statements which allows for a standardized comparison of the daily average throughout the year.

Kombi, Ice Machines, and the Structure of Street Work

With the growth in reach on social media, the actor also received support that changed the business’s logistics.

Reports recorded that a customer identified as Thiago gifted him a Kombi used to transport boxes and facilitate the movement of goods to the sales points.

During the same period, Erthal reported receiving ice machines sent by a partner company, a resource that helps in storing and replenishing cold drinks.

He also promoted online fundraising to cover repairs and improvements on the vehicle as part of the effort to structure the operation.

The expansion of the structure, however, did not eliminate the typical challenges of street trade in competitive areas.

The activity depends on weather conditions, availability of supplies, and foot traffic, in addition to requiring attention to local regulations and inspections.

Reports, Vehicle Seizure, and Impact on Logistics

Shortly after the Kombi became part of the business operation, the actor reported that he lost the vehicle.

The seizure, according to reports and his own publications, occurred after complaints from residents and resulted in the seizure of the vehicle.

The reports also mentioned existing pending issues related to the vehicle’s history, which complicated its regularization.

The episode affected the transport of goods, as the Kombi was used to supply the cart and organize the distribution of boxes and ice.

Still, Erthal continued working on the streets and maintained sales during peak periods, adapting logistics to what was available.

Bar in Botafogo and Sales at Large Events

With the progress of the project, Daniel Erthal announced the opening of a bar in Botafogo, associated with the name “Ilha da Sede”.

In publications and interviews, he showcased the works and adjustments of the space and reported a forecast for operation starting at the end of 2024, consolidating the transition to a model that combines a fixed location and presence at events.

Even with the bar, the work as a street vendor did not leave the script.

In statements reported by the press, the actor said he would return to selling drinks on New Year’s Eve in Copacabana, reinforcing the strategy of maintaining a presence during times when the city attracts large crowds and, consequently, greater sales potential.

He has presented his journey as a professional reorganization based on entrepreneurship and direct work with the public.

Without resorting to studio backrooms, the routine began to involve restocking, displacement, purchasing supplies, and continuous service, focusing on dates that typically increase the demand for drinks in the South Zone.
