Stellantis Is Strongly Criticized For Using Home Office As A Maneuver For Mass Dismissals
The automotive giant Stellantis, which controls brands such as Jeep, Peugeot, Citroën, Dodge, and Chrysler, is at the center of an international controversy following the abrupt dismissal of 400 employees via video calls. The company called employees to work remotely, under the pretext of “important operational meetings”—but in practice, used the home office as a strategy to carry out mass dismissals, according to the website Xataka.
Mass Virtual Dismissal Causes Anger
The dismissal decision, made at the end of March in the United States, was classified by many employees as “cold, inhumane, and strategic”. One of the dismissed employees even referred to the action as a “corporate massacre”, criticizing what he considered a pursuit of “profit at any cost”.
“They could have done this differently. We are not numbers”, expressed one of the affected individuals.

Company Claims Crisis In The Automotive Sector
According to Stellantis, the dismissal is part of a necessary restructuring in light of an “unprecedented uncertainty” in the automotive sector and the increase in global competition. The company stated that the layoffs aim to “improve efficiency and optimize cost structure”.
This is not the first time a large company has resorted to home office to make cuts:
In 2022, Twitter (now X) laid off employees by blocking access and emails without prior notice. Other tech companies have also faced criticism for similar decisions during the pandemic.
Criticisms Of Dehumanization In The Corporate Environment
The way the dismissal was handled once again raises the debate about ethics in remote work relationships and the boundary between corporate efficiency and human respect.
The negative fallout from the dismissal has generated social and union pressure, placing Stellantis under the spotlight at a sensitive time for the sector.
