After announcing changes in other fuels, Petrobras commented again on the behavior of the international market and explained which factors will be decisive before any decision on gasoline, a topic that has once again caught the attention of consumers across the country.

The possibility of a new change in the price of gasoline returned to the center of discussions this week after statements from the president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard. Although the state company has not yet confirmed any adjustment for the fuel, the executive stated that the company monitors the evolution of the international oil market daily and that new decisions will depend on the behavior of prices in the coming days. The statements were made on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, during the launch ceremony of the Petrobras Cultural Selection, in Rio de Janeiro, as published by Poder360.

The positioning comes shortly after Petrobras announced cuts in the price of diesel and aviation kerosene (QAV), increasing market expectations about the company’s next steps. Even so, Magda Chambriard made a point of adopting a cautious discourse and reinforced that any discussion about gasoline is still considered premature.

Petrobras avoids anticipating decision on gasoline

Questioned by journalists about the possibility of a new adjustment, Magda stated that the company continues to monitor international prices daily before making any decision.

“We are still looking. As I said, we look at this all the time. We will certainly monitor the trend of international prices. But I will not answer this question because it is premature,” she declared.

The president explained that Petrobras’ commercial policy continues to be based on monitoring the global market, but without automatically transferring all international fluctuations to Brazilian consumers.

According to her, all fuels sold by the state company follow international trends, but the company seeks to avoid that periods of strong volatility are immediately reflected in domestic prices.

This strategy has been used to offer greater predictability to the Brazilian market and reduce the impacts caused by the constant variations of energy commodities.

Diesel and aviation kerosene have already had prices changed

While gasoline remains under evaluation, other fuels have already undergone significant changes.

On Tuesday (30), Petrobras announced a reduction of R$ 0.35 per liter in the diesel sold to distributors.

Then on Wednesday (1st), the company confirmed an average drop of 14.46% in the price of aviation kerosene (QAV), equivalent to R$ 0.81 per liter compared to the previous month. As a result, the fuel began to be sold at refineries between R$ 4.67 and R$ 4.93 per liter.

According to Petrobras, the reduction was favored by the drop in international oil prices, mainly after the easing of tensions in the Middle East, which had pressured the global market in recent weeks.

Magda further explained that aviation kerosene has a different dynamic from gasoline because it operates with long-term contracts, causing its adjustments to follow international behavior differently.

Additionally, the executive recalled that during the period of high prices, Petrobras even split part of the impacts of the QAV increase to reduce the effects on its customers.

Oil drop influences Petrobras decisions

Another factor observed by the company is the behavior of Brent oil, an international reference used by the market.

In recent weeks, the barrel returned to operate in the range between US$ 72 and US$ 75, a movement considered one of the main reasons for the recent adjustments made by the state company.

Even so, Magda emphasized that Petrobras will continue to carefully analyze each scenario before making new changes.

According to her, when international prices rise, the impacts fall on the company. When they fall, the effect is also felt. Therefore, all decisions need to consider not only the value of commodities but also the stability of the Brazilian market.

Experience of 2018 still influences pricing policy

During the interview, Magda Chambriard also recalled one of the most remarkable episodes of Petrobras’ fuel policy.

She stated that around 2018, the almost daily adjustments adopted by the company produced effects considered negative, leading to a loss of market share.

According to the president, this experience made the state company review its commercial strategy, prioritizing greater predictability for consumers, distributors, and investors today.

According to the executive, the goal is to find a balance between competitive prices, the company’s financial sustainability, and meeting the needs of Brazilian society.

She also emphasized that all Petrobras projects continue to undergo rigorous profitability analyses, ensuring that investments maintain adequate economic returns without compromising the company’s competitiveness.

Meanwhile, consumers, analysts, and the fuel sector remain attentive to the next movements of the international market. If the trend of stability or decline in oil is maintained, Petrobras may reassess the gasoline scenario, but for now, no changes have been officially confirmed by the company.
