The New Floating Production Unit from the Santos Basin Will Operate in Oil Production Focused on the Pre-Salt, with Expected Start in the First Half of 2023 or Even by the End of 2022
According to Gazeta, on Sunday (16), a floating production unit assembled on the North Coast of Espírito Santo, named P-71, left the Jurong Shipyard, located in Barra do Riacho, in Aracruz, headed for a Petrobras oil field in the Santos Basin, located in Rio de Janeiro.
With the installation license granted by Ibama, the FPSO will operate in the Itapu Field, located in Rio de Janeiro, in the Santos Basin, focusing its production on the pre-salt. The expected start of activities on the vessel is for the early months of 2023, with the possibility that the schedule may be advanced to 2022.
When contacted to comment on the departure of the vessel from the shipyard, Petrobras confirmed the movement but stated that details about the operation will only be provided on Monday (17).

HOW DOES AN OIL PLATFORM VESSEL WORK?
More About Ships and Platforms: Petrobras’ P-68 Floating Production Unit, Operating in the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin – Rio de Janeiro Coast, Breaks Production Record and Exceeds 161 Thousand Barrels of Oil Per Day!
Petrobras informed the market that its P-68 floating production unit, which operates in the Berbigão and Sururu fields in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, broke the daily production record on the last day 10/08, with a volume of 161,756 barrels of oil per day (bpd). According to the state-owned company’s report, this mark was achieved with the start of production from the ninth production well (7-SRR-6D-RJS), surpassing the previous record achieved in June of this year, of 157 thousand bpd.
The new production record of oil was supported by studies to increase the platform’s capacity, under the most rigorous safety conditions, with authorization from the competent external bodies.
Additionally, to achieve this volume, the platform is operating with nine production wells, four of which use gas lift as an artificial lifting method to increase the reservoir’s productivity.
ABOUT PETROBRAS’ P-68 UNIT
The P-68 unit of Petrobras is a FPSO type platform (floating production, storage, and offloading unit) that began operations in 2019 with a capacity to produce up to 150 thousand bpd and process 6 million m³ of gas per day.
