Atlas Renewable Energy Started the Operation of 192 MW in Solar Plants in the Municipality of Arinos (MG), Consolidating the Advance of Solar Energy in the Country and Boosting the Sustainable Energy Transition.
Solar energy continues to advance in Brazil with the operation of new photovoltaic plants in the state of Minas Gerais. Atlas Renewable Energy, one of the leading companies in the sector, received authorization from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to initiate the generation tests of 192.4 MW of power across four solar plants located in the municipality of Arinos.
The plants — Draco Solar 1, 2, 5, and 6 — are part of a significant movement to expand solar energy in the country. The projects were previously owned by Shell Brasil and were acquired by Atlas in March of last year, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and the decarbonization of the Brazilian energy matrix.
Aneel Authorizes Over 215 MW in New Operations
The authorizations from Aneel, published in the edition of the Official Gazette of the Union on October 20, represent a milestone for the advancement of solar energy and other renewable sources in the country. In total, more than 215 MW were authorized to begin operation in different generation modalities.

Chinese company creates solar cell that breaks the physical limit of silicon with 34.85% efficiency and promises to revolutionize electricity bills with panels that generate 20% more energy starting in 2026.
In addition to the solar plants from Atlas Renewable Energy, the agency also approved Oiapoque Energia to start the operation tests of UG1 from PCH Salto Cafesoca, of 3.7 MW, in the municipality of Oiapoque (AP). In the segment of small hydropower plants (PCHs), Saltinho Energia obtained approval for the commercial operation of generating units 1 and 2 of PCH Saltinho, totaling 18 MW, located in Ipê (RS).
The hydroelectric power plant, which has a total capacity of 27.2 MW, was the winner of the 2022 generation auction and underwent a series of tests in recent weeks before receiving the final authorization.
Advancement of Micro and Minigeneration Strengthens the Role of Distributed Solar Energy
Another highlight was the expansion of micro and minigeneration distributed (MMGD), which continues to democratize access to solar energy in the country. Centro de Ensino São Lucas University, in Porto Velho (RO), received authorization to initiate the commercial operation of six generating units of the AFYA photovoltaic plant, an important step for the academic and sustainable use of clean energy.
In Santa Catarina, Pirâmide Pré-Moldados, an industry located in Biguaçu, was also authorized to start testing its solar plant Pirâmide APE, increasing the adoption of renewable sources in the industrial sector. These advancements show how solar energy is becoming increasingly present in different segments of the Brazilian economy.
With the growth of clean sources, the trading market is also expanding. Aneel authorized Green Energy Trader and PCH Ciao Energia to operate as trading agents in the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE).
This movement reinforces the dynamism of the sector and the importance of public policies that ensure regulatory security and stimulate investments in solar energy projects, which are essential for energy transition and reducing carbon emissions in Brazil.
