New Boeing Engineering Center has just opened. The company's investments promise to generate new jobs and advance Brazilian aerospace technology.
Boeing held this Tuesday (10), the inauguration of its new Engineering and Technology Center in Brazil, in São José dos Campos (SP), the city that has been home to the company since 2014. The Boeing engineering center in Brazil is one of the aerospace manufacturer's 15 around the world, which develop cutting-edge technology to boost aerospace innovation.
Boeing announces series of strategic investments in the country
Boeing's approximately 500 engineers based in Brazil work in several areas, providing support for various types of current and future aircraft. During the event at the Engineering and Technology Center in Brazil with employees and key partners this Tuesday, the company released several strategic investments in the country.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of the state of São Paulo focusing on aerospace technological development. Among Boeing's main objectives are the development of training in aerospace engineering, including education focused on science, engineering, technology and mathematics (STEM).

The company also plans to apply investments to promote a joint industrialization and innovation agenda, improve and strengthen the flow of talent across the aerospace ecosystem, with a specific focus on increasing diversity.
Together with the Campinas State University (Unicamp), Boeing announced funding for a sustainability project that extends the partnership to leverage the third phase of the SAFMaps database, which makes it possible to extend the viability of the most promising inputs for the production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) in areas specific to the country.
Boeing also announces internship program in the country
During the inauguration of the Boeing Engineering Center, the company also announced the company's first internship program in the country, focusing on final year engineering students. Interns will apply knowledge through projects in a global and multicultural environment, with guidance from experienced professionals.
The initiative is aligned with the company's global strategy of contributing to Excellence in engineering in the countries where it operates. According to Boeing Vice President of Engineering, Strategy and Operations, Lynne Hopper, Boeing's long-standing partnership with Brazil dates back more than 90 years and during this period the company has collaborated with the aerospace industry and the Brazilian community to take advantage of the incredible technical skills and problem-solving capabilities of Brazilian engineers.
His experience strengthens Boeing's commitment to engineering excellence and positions it to take on next-generation challenges in its industry. According to Jorge Lima, Secretary of Economic Development for the State of São Paulo, the state has all the conditions to consolidate technological advancement in aerospace, an essential sector that drives São Paulo's economy. In this way, the company seeks to generate more jobs and income for its state, one of the main objectives of the partnership with the private sector, a guideline from Governor Tarcísio de Freitas.
Boeing investments in Brazil over the years
In addition to the Boeing engineering center, the company highlights that it has made investments to strengthen the country's aerospace ecosystem on several fronts, including obtaining more than 30 patents through the Boeing team. Boeing Research Center since its installation in the country in 2012.
The company also invested US$5 million in partnerships with institutions focused on teaching Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM), impacting 5 million students and training thousands of teachers.
In the area of sustainability, Boeing has been working for more than 10 years in collaboration with universities, public institutions and non-governmental organizations to enable the decarbonization of the aerospace sector. This work has a special focus on sustainable aviation fuels, recognizing the country's pioneering role and expertise in biofuels.
