ANP Reports That Oil And Gas Production In Brazil Hit A New Record In 2023, Exceeding 4 Million Barrels Daily. The Pre-Salt Was The Main Contributor To This Result, Representing Over 75% Of National Production.
Oil and gas production in Brazil reached a new record in 2023, with an average daily output of 4.344 million barrels of oil equivalent, an increase of 11.69% compared to the previous record from 2022, as reported by the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP). For the first time, the national average annual production exceeded 4 million barrels per day. The standout in the numbers was the pre-salt, which accounted for 75.18% of national production. Despite December’s data indicating a monthly reduction, the overall outlook points to future growth in the national oil sector.
ANP Announces New Record In Brazilian Oil And Gas Production In 2023
The Brazilian oil industry ended the week with great news: oil and gas production in Brazil reached a new record in 2023, according to data released by the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP).
Last year, the daily average production of oil and gas reached 4.344 million barrels of oil equivalent, an increase of 11.69% compared to the previous record set in 2022.

Petrobras puts R$ 15 billion on the table and begins studies with artificial intelligence in the Marajó Basin, while projecting US$ 2.5 billion in the Equatorial Margin to explore 37 strategic sedimentary basins in Brazil.
This achievement represents the first time that the average annual production exceeded 4 million barrels per day in Brazil.
The year 2023 also brought records in the separate productions of oil and natural gas.
Daily oil production reached 3.402 million barrels, an increase of 12.57% from 2022.
Meanwhile, daily natural gas production hit 150 million cubic meters, representing a growth of 8.7% compared to the previous year.
Pre-Salt Shines In New Oil And Gas Production Numbers From ANP
The major highlight of the new numbers announced by the ANP in oil and gas production in Brazil was the pre-salt segment.
As announced, the average volume produced in the pre-salt in 2023 also set records, totaling 3.304 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.
This number represents, on average, 75.18% of national production, reinforcing the importance of the pre-salt in Brazil’s energy matrix.
In December, the ANP reported that 4.570 million barrels per day of oil and natural gas were produced.
The oil production was 3.585 million barrels per day, with a slight decrease compared to November, but still recording an increase of 16.6% compared to the same month in 2022.
For natural gas, the production was 156.618 million cubic meters per day, a slight decrease compared to the previous month, but with an increase of 11.8% compared to the same period the previous year.
Thus, even with the reductions in December, the ANP remains optimistic about the growth of the oil and gas sector in the coming years.
