Brazil Signs Unique Agreement with United Arab Emirates for Live Bird Export in 2025, Opening New Billion-Dollar Market for National Agriculture.

The Brazilian agribusiness has further expanded its presence in the Middle East with a Brazil-UAE agreement that allows, starting in 2025, the export of live domestic birds to the Arab country. This is a unique opening that includes species intended for ornamental purposes, conservation in zoos, and preservation projects, but does not include chickens and other birds intended for commercial slaughter or egg production for consumption.

A New Milestone in the Foreign Trade of Brazilian Agriculture

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), this new front in foreign trade is part of the government’s strategy to diversify its export portfolio, creating opportunities for producers specialized in high-value niches.

With the inclusion of live birds, Brazil has reached 404 market openings in 71 destinations since the beginning of 2023, consolidating its position as a powerhouse in the agribusiness sector.

The significance of this step goes beyond the numbers. By opening up space in a highly demanding market like that of the United Arab Emirates, Brazil strengthens its image as a reliable partner in the global supply chain of agro-industrial products.

Billion-Dollar Market for Live Birds in the Middle East

The live bird segment in the Middle East generates billions of dollars every year, especially in areas of preservation, ornamental breeding, and zoos. The agreement paves the way for Brazilian breeders to explore a niche that is still underdeveloped domestically, but in high external demand.

According to Mapa, the export of live birds could diversify the income of specialized producers, adding value to species that currently have a restricted market within Brazil. This includes exotic and ornamental birds, and even species intended for conservation programs in research centers and zoos in the Emirates.

Brazilian Agriculture in the Middle East: Strengthened Relationships

In 2024, Brazilian agriculture in the Middle East had already generated over US$ 3.3 billion just with the United Arab Emirates, highlighting meat, products from the sugar and alcohol complex, and coffee.

The inclusion of live birds in the export list reinforces the complementarity between the two economies: on one side, Brazil’s productive capacity and biodiversity; on the other, the growing demand of an expanding market.

This agreement also connects to the strategic role of the United Arab Emirates as a logistics hub in the region, facilitating the redistribution of cargo to other Gulf countries and even to Asia and Africa.

Benefits and Challenges of New Live Bird Export

For Brazilian producers, the benefits include access to a market willing to pay high prices for rare or conservation-oriented species. Additionally, the agreement stimulates the development of a sector that combines science, environmental preservation, and trade.

On the other hand, there are significant challenges: compliance with rigorous sanitary and environmental protocols will be essential to ensure the acceptance of Brazilian birds in the Arab market.

It will also be necessary to invest in specialized logistics, including safe and appropriate transportation to ensure animal welfare during international movements.

A Strategic Step for the Future of National Agriculture

The Brazil-UAE agreement for the export of live birds reinforces the country’s ability to open new frontiers in global trade.

By expanding its export portfolio beyond traditional products, Brazil positions itself not only as a supplier of commodities but also as a leader in specialized niches, with the potential to generate billion-dollar figures in the coming years.

And you, do you believe Brazil will seize this opportunity to consolidate a new market in foreign trade and turn the export of live birds into one of the pillars of Brazilian agriculture in the Middle East?
