The New Investments Made by Peruvians Were Negotiated by Ceará with the Goal of Producing Avocado and Blueberry, According to the Executive Secretary of Agriculture of Sedet During the Fruit Sector Fair in Madrid, Spain
According to Silvio Carlos, executive of agriculture at the Economic Development and Labor Secretariat (Sedet), the Government of the State of Ceará has already begun the processes with the companies from the South American country that will allocate the investments and they should meet in the coming days as part of the agenda for participation in Fruit Attraction 2022 in Madrid.
According to the executive secretary of Sedet, the Peruvian businessmen are looking for alternatives to start investments in Brazilian agriculture, as the sanitary restrictions between the countries hinder trade here. The goal of the Peruvian businessmen is to acquire land in Ceará to start producing high-value fruits such as avocado and blueberry. Silvio Carlos commented that they have already inspected some regions in the State of Ceará that have great potential, such as Ibiapaba and others near the municipalities of Limoeiro and Quixeré.
“There is a company from Peru that will visit Ibiapaba because they want to invest in Brazilian agriculture producing avocado and blueberry. The investors from Peru are very interested in pest-free regions, which can be found in Limoeiro do Norte, Quixeré, and other locations. The investors are interested in coming from Peru to sell here in Brazil, as we have a good internal market”, explained Silvio.

Cocoa Production
The executive of the agriculture sector also stated that the State still has great potential for cocoa production in the coming years, with this new investment from Peruvians. Silvio Carlos also mentioned that he discussed the topic with European businessmen during the early moments of the fair in Madrid, and there is room to expand the exports of the product that comes from Ceará.
“The sector that is growing a lot is cocoa. We conducted tests years ago combining it with banana, and it is already a reality, so the people from Acaraú are already associating cocoa with coconut. We produce a lot of cocoa, but we also import a lot because the demand is very high”, he said. He further added: “The truth is that we have a tremendous potential, and I have great confidence in the fruit sector of agriculture in Ceará”.
