The BYD King 2026 Launches in Brazil with a Promise of Record Efficiency, Expanded Range, and Competitive Prices, Aiming to Compete Directly with the Toyota Corolla Hybrid in the Mid-Size Sedan Segment.
The BYD King 2026 makes its debut in the Brazilian market with a focus on efficiency and technology. The brand maintains its promise of up to 44.2 km/l in urban use measured by Inmetro and a combined range of up to 1,200 km with a full tank and battery, numbers that place the sedan among the most economical hybrids on sale.
Prices start at R$ 169,990 for the GL version and R$ 175,990 for the GS, positioning designed to compete directly with the Toyota Corolla.
Efficiency and Range of the BYD King 2026

The index of 44.2 km/l appears on the Inmetro label of the GS version and refers to the testing for plug-in hybrid vehicles, where part of the journey is conducted in electric mode.

The Toyota Hilux is R$ 75.5 thousand cheaper and bets on the 2.8 turbodiesel engine with up to 204 hp and 50.9 kgfm to catch up with the VW Saveiro, which leads with 4,472 sales.

The new Renault Koleos has a screen exclusively for the passenger that is invisible to the driver, heated rear seats, and 29 assistance systems, but its Chinese competitors cost R$ 40,000 less and deliver more power.

The car stored for 38 years: when opening the barn door, what appears is breathtaking and looks like a scene from a movie!

Fiat works miracles in the Brazilian market, lowers the price of its 0 km hatch to R$ 69,990, reestablishes the model as the cheapest car in the country, and reignites the battle against Kwid and C3.
On the highway, the same standard recorded 36.7 km/l. When operating solely with the combustion engine, the King maintains competitive fuel consumption for a mid-size sedan.
The total range of up to 1,200 km is an official estimate from BYD under controlled conditions, combining the battery energy with the fuel in the tank.
Recent changes altered the reported electric range in Brazil. In the 2026 lineup, the King GS now records 62 km in the PBEV cycle (Brazilian standard from Inmetro), a decrease from the 80 km measured in 2024.
BYD has not officially detailed the update on the electric range of the GL version for 2026; at launch, it had 32 km in the PBEV.
In the NEDC standard (more lenient and used in global technical specifications), 55 km for the GL and 120 km for the GS remain valid.
Hybrid System and Performance
The powertrain continues to consist of the 1.5 gasoline engine and the electrical system of the DM-i architecture (plug-in).

The adjusted calibration to meet Proconve L8 reduced the power of the combustion engine, but the combined power remains at 209 hp (GL) and 235 hp (GS).
At the top of the line, the acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 s has been preserved, while the GL achieves the same sprint in 7.9 s. The Blade batteries have 8.3 kWh (GL) and 18.3 kWh (GS).
Equipment and Safety Technologies
Inside the cabin, the sedan features a 12.8” rotating multimedia screen, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It also includes an 8.8” display, remote updates, and a sound system with six speakers in the GL and eight in the GS. There is also a 360° camera, inductive charger, and NFC card connectivity.
The major innovation of the 2026 lineup is the inclusion of the ADAS assistance package in the GS version, which adds adaptive cruise control (ACC), autonomous emergency braking, collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance.
Electronic stability control and TPMS remain standard.
Visual and Exterior Design
The King features a modern design, with sleek full-LED headlights and a prominent grille.
At the rear, a luminous strip connects the taillights and enhances the premium aspect. The 2026 lineup received new 17-inch wheels and retains a trunk capacity of 450 liters.
Versions, Prices, and Market Positioning

The lineup continues with two configurations. The GL, the entry model, starts at R$ 169,990 and comes with the hybrid system of 209 hp, a smaller battery, and a complete safety package for the category.
The GS, priced at R$ 175,990, adds the 18.3 kWh battery, superior performance, and the ADAS package.
With this pricing structure, the King has become cheaper than the hybrid versions of the Corolla that are comparable in content, a strategy that increases competitive pressure in the segment.
Warranty and Ownership Costs
BYD maintains a six-year warranty with no mileage limit for the vehicle and eight years for the Blade Battery.
The remote update package via OTA and native connectivity help keep the electronic systems always updated.
BYD’s Industrial Expansion in Brazil
The commercial offensive of the King occurs alongside the brand’s expansion in the country. BYD began, on July 1, 2025, the pre-series assembly of vehicles in Camaçari (BA), as the first step towards nationalization.
The full operation of the complex has been rescheduled to be completed fully by the end of 2026, with a progressive ramp-up of production.
The goal is to increase local supply and reduce delivery times as the operation matures.
Competition with the Toyota Corolla
In price and equipment, the King 2026 competes closely with mid-range combustion versions of the Corolla and falls below the more expensive hybrid configurations of the rival.
Combining everyday electric range with performance close to models that run exclusively on gasoline, a question arises: will the efficiency of up to 44.2 km/l and the range of 1,200 km manage to shift preference away from the Corolla in Brazilian garages?
