Market Regulated Demand Grew 6.7% And In The Liberal Environment Increased 4.9%

The state of Rio de Janeiro ended August with a demand of 5,231 megawatts average, a volume 5.3% higher compared to the same period last year and the highest rate recorded in the Southeast region in the last month, according to data from the Electric Energy Trading Chamber – CCEE.

The main factors for the increase were the higher temperatures compared to those recorded in 2022, which led to greater use of cooling equipment, and the good performance of some sectors of the economy, which increased their production to meet local demand.

Of the total energy consumed in the month, 3,584 MW average were directed to the regulated market, which supplies residences and small businesses, closing the period with a growth of 6.7% in the annual comparison. In this segment, climate factors have a greater impact.

The remainder, 1,647 MW average, was allocated to the free market, where industry and medium to large companies purchase their energy. The growth was 4.9% in the annual comparison. Among the 15 economic sectors monitored by the CCEE, the highest growth rates were recorded in non-metallic mineral sectors (12.7%), commerce (11.1%), and the food industry (8.9%).
