Imetame Declares Commerciality of Cardeal Field of Northeast East and Says It Will Supply Gas to the Prosperidade II Thermoelectric Plant, Located in the State of Bahia

Located in the Recôncavo Basin, the Cardeal Field of Northeast East, in block REC-T-212, becomes commercial according to Imetame and will offer gas to the Prosperidade II thermoelectric plant in the state of Bahia. Production has not yet begun, and the document was sent to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP) on February 21 of this year.

The drilling of well 1-IMET-26A-BA was carried out in September of last year, where gas fluids were found. Imetame also operates a neighboring field, Cardeal do Nordeste, in the same block.

REC-T-212 was acquired by Imetame in the 13th Bid Round of the ANP.

The expectation is that the gas produced in this newly commercial field will be used as fuel for electricity generation at the Prosperidade II thermoelectric plant in Camaçari, in the state of Bahia (still in project, with an operation forecast in 2026).

According to Petróleo Hoje, the plant will also receive gas from Cardeal do Nordeste, which will supply the UTE Prosperidade I in the same state. Production depends on ANP approval and dispatch for the second plant, as it will serve both in parallel.

The Discovery Assessment Plan (PAD) for the area expires at the end of this month (31/3) and the second exploratory period in August 2021.
