Controversy Surrounding the Acceptance of Bolsonaro’s MP
On the previous night, President Jair Bolsonaro signed a provisional measure allowing the suspension of employment contracts for a period of up to 4 months due to the events surrounding the Coronavirus and the calamity of the Brazilian state. According to the MP, the suspension of contracts will not depend on an agreement or collective bargaining. The text states that individual agreements between employers and employees will take precedence over labor laws, as long as the Federal Constitution is not violated. During the validity period of the MP, the employer will not pay wages, and the employee will stop working.
President Jair Bolsonaro’s Explanation on His Twitter Regarding the MP
“We clarify that the aforementioned MP, contrary to what is being spread, safeguards possible assistance for employees. Instead of being dismissed, the government provides assistance for the next 4 months, until the normal activities of the establishment resume, without the dismissal of the employee.” States President Jair Bolsonaro on his Twitter.
