The MG4 Was Named Electric Car of the Year in 2023 at the Annual DrivingElectric Awards Ceremony.
The fully electric family hatchback is one of the most economical models from the brand to date, earning the title of Best Value Electric Car. The MG4 starts at just under £26,000, making it one of the most affordable EVs for sale in the UK, yet still offers the same technology and features as its more expensive rivals.
Meet the Electric Car of the Year in 2023
All MG4s offer a battery range of over 200 miles with 150kW rapid charging capability, plenty of included technology, and the brand’s seven-year / 80,000-mile warranty also comes as standard. All of this has clearly proven popular with buyers, as the MG4 not only impressed the judges at DrivingElectric but was also voted the readers’ favorite electric car in an online poll.
The editor of DrivingElectric, Richard Ingram, said: “The MG4 combines range, practicality, and plenty of kit in a stylish and fun-to-drive package – all at an unbeatable price.”

2022 Was Successful for the Electric Car of the Year in 2023
2022 is clearly a successful year for MG. The MG4 has not only solidified the Chinese brand’s presence in the UK market, but its future MG Cyberster roadster has also been voted the most anticipated car of the year by DrivingElectric readers.
There are four awards in total. MG Motor UK’s Commercial Director, Guy Pigounakis, said the brand was “passionate” about the result: “We are committed to bringing zero-emission motoring to as many people as possible,” he said, “with cars that truly live up to the MG brand’s ‘Get More’ philosophy.”
Other DrivingElectric award winners included the Kia Niro, which took the title of Best Hybrid Family Car. The Ora Funky Cat surpassed the Fiat 500 as the Best Urban Electric Car, and the Skoda Enyaq iV managed to retain its title of Best Electric Family Car for another year.
Get to Know the MG4
The MG4 EV, known in China as MG Mulan in honor of the legendary heroine, is a medium hatchback that occupies the status of the brand’s entry-level car and also competes with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV 6.
It is a car full of technology and attractive design. The MG4 will have two battery options, 51 kWh and 64 kWh, offering ranges of 350km and 452km respectively in the WLTP cycle. This means it can go a bit further than the basic version of the ID.3, which has a range of 330 km and 420 km, but falls short of the more expensive version, which can travel 550 km on a single charge and supposedly targets the public.
Visually, the MG4 stands out for its aggressiveness. The front omits the grille and features lines and headlights that give a more aggressive face to the hatch. The wheels and, particularly, the double rear spoiler, which appears to be an extension of the glass roof, also contribute to enhancing its sportiness.
