Owner tried to resolve the situation amicably after discovering the damages to the supercar, but the lack of consensus on compensation led the case to the judiciary and attracted the attention of millions of people on social media.
An unusual episode in the city of Kunming, in Yunnan province, southwest China, turned an Italian supercar into a global topic. According to information released by Chinese media outlets and reported by the Carscoops website, four children used a parked Ferrari 488 GTB as if it were a slide, causing damages that ended in a legal dispute. The incident occurred at the end of May and gained enormous attention after security camera footage surpassed 60 million views on social media.
The vehicle owner stated that he was on a business trip when it all happened. Upon returning, he found his luxury car with various scratches, marks, and a series of damages spread across the bodywork. A family man, he revealed that his first reaction was to try to resolve the issue amicably, without immediately resorting to the courts.
Cameras captured the play on the Ferrari
The footage recorded by the internal monitoring circuit shows four boys, all supposedly under 10 years old, approaching the red Ferrari parked in an outdoor area.

Driven by curiosity sparked by the sporty shape of the vehicle, they climb onto the hood, walk over the windshield and roof, and then slide down the rear glass as if using a slide. At another moment, the recordings also show the children touching long bamboo sticks to the car’s bodywork.
Although the play lasted only a few moments, the result was enough to cause various damages. According to the owner, the car had deep scratches on the hood, roof, fenders, lights, and windows, as well as damage to the front bumper.
The Ferrari remained parked throughout the entire episode, without any intervention until the owner’s return, who only noticed the damage upon arriving from the trip.
Owner avoided dealership to reduce repair cost
Even in light of the situation, the owner stated that he tried to minimize repair costs. Instead of sending the vehicle to an official Ferrari dealership, where he estimated the service could exceed 100,000 yuan, he decided to seek independent specialized workshops.
Additionally, he opted for the use of compatible alternative parts, significantly reducing the final budget.
According to the receipts presented later, the total repair cost was 29,360 yuan, equivalent to approximately US$ 4,300. Even so, it is a considerable loss caused by an unexpected situation.
After gathering all the repair documentation, the owner approached the police to try to reach an agreement with those responsible for the children.
Lack of agreement led the case to court
The negotiations took place in two meetings between the Ferrari owner and the boys’ parents. However, according to a report by the South China Morning Post, an understanding was never reached.
According to the account published by the publication, those responsible offered only 5,000 yuan as compensation for the damages, and there was no formal apology from the children.
Given the difference between the repair cost and the proposal presented, the owner decided to end the out-of-court negotiations and file a civil lawsuit to seek full compensation for the damages.
Under Chinese law, minors under 14 are not subject to administrative detention for this type of occurrence. Thus, when there is material damage, liability usually occurs through civil actions filed against their legal guardians.
Ferrari 488 GTB is among the most well-known supercars of the Italian brand
The vehicle involved in the episode is a Ferrari 488 GTB, a model produced between 2015 and 2020 and recognized as one of the most iconic sports cars of the Italian manufacturer.
Equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine capable of delivering 661 horsepower (492 kW / 670 PS), the model succeeded the Ferrari 458 Italia and later gave way to the Ferrari F8 Tributo, before the arrival of the Ferrari 296 GTB.
According to the owner, the car was purchased new for about 3.6 million yuan, equivalent to approximately US$ 530,000 at the time of purchase. He also stated that the car had never suffered any risk or damage before the incident recorded by the cameras.
While the process is still underway, the episode continues to spark debates on social media about parental responsibility, children’s education, and the limits of damage compensation when high-value goods are involved.
