The Mineral Cesko and Mineral Polska Ships, of 210,000 DWT Each, Were Named at the Qingdao Beihai Shipyard, Reinforcing the Bet on Green Fuels.
China was the stage for the dual naming ceremony of two 210,000 DWT ammonia-powered bulk carriers. The vessels belong to the Belgian shipowner CMB.TECH. The event took place on May 20, 2025, at the Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry (BSIC) shipyard. This shipyard is part of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
Ceremony in Qingdao Marks a New Step for CMB.TECH
The naming ceremony for the two new bulk carriers took place at the Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry (BSIC) shipyard. This important event for CMB.TECH occurred on May 20, 2025. The BSIC shipyard is part of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
Features of the New Bulk Carriers
The named ships are the Mineral Cesko and the Mineral Polska. Each bulk carrier has a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 210,000 tons. They were classified by the UK classification society, Lloyd’s Register. The service speed of these vessels is 14.69 knots. The design of the ships is based on the “Star” series of green ship technology. This technology was developed by the CSBC Ship Design & Research Center.

China is designing a container ship with a thorium nuclear reactor that will operate for 40 years without refueling, and the 25,000-container giant from Jiangnan Shipyard will cross oceans without emitting carbon in an industry that burns 300 million tons of fuel per year.

An entire boat came out of the 3D printer without a mold and without seams: CEAD’s giant robot creates hulls up to 12 meters in a single piece, replacing months of shipyard work with code and putting shipbuilding on the brink of a turning point that seems like science fiction.

The “dock ship” that deliberately sinks to swallow superyachts like toys: Yacht Servant is 214 meters long, 46 meters wide, has a 6,380 m² deck, and uses float-on/float-off operation to transform maritime luxury into a semi-submersible parking lot.

The French titanium submarine that descends where the light disappears: Nautile carries three people to a depth of 6,000 meters, reaches 97% of the ocean floor, and has already investigated the Titanic, underwater volcanoes, and regions that remain inaccessible to most vessels on the planet.
Focus on Sustainability and Efficiency in Bulk Carrier Design
The development and design process aimed to ensure compliance with international standards. During this phase, the hull structure was optimized. The resistance coefficient and fuel efficiency were also improved. Various emission reduction technologies were adopted. The goal is to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from each bulk carrier.
Strategic Partnership Boosts Green Ships
In September 2024, Beihai Shipbuilding and CMB.TECH signed an agreement. This strategic cooperation focuses on the market for ships powered by green fuels. The companies research and develop low-carbon and zero-emission technologies together. Working together, CSSC and CMB.TECH aim to make “greater contributions” to sustainable global shipping.
History of Collaboration and Recent Deliveries
Since July 2021, the Chinese shipyard and the Belgian company have signed significant contracts. These contracts provide for the construction of nearly thirty 210,000 DWT bulk carriers. Last month, Beihai Shipbuilding delivered the Mineral Sverige. This is another eco-friendly bulk carrier of 210,000 DWT, also for CMB.TECH.
