Billion-dollar investment drives industrial transformation in strategic pole of Brazilian agriculture, with expansion of production capacity, logistical integration, and advancement in value addition to soy, reinforcing Brazil’s global leadership in agricultural commodity processing.

The multinational COFCO confirmed an investment exceeding R$ 2 billion to expand its industrial unit in Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso, aiming to transform the plant into the largest soybean processing complex in the country.

The announcement was made in April 2026 and reinforces Brazil’s leadership in the global agricultural commodity chain.

Located in one of the most productive regions of the national agribusiness, the unit already operates significantly in soybean crushing, producing meal, oil, and biodiesel.

With the planned expansion, the current capacity, estimated at around 4,500 tons per day, is expected to jump to approximately 10,000 tons daily, more than doubling the processed volume.

COFCO expansion increases capacity and logistics in Rondonópolis

The construction will take place in the area already occupied by the company, in a space integrated with the city’s railway terminal, a factor considered strategic for the flow of production.

This proximity to the logistical network reduces operational costs and improves the competitiveness of the industry located in the region.

The project is expected to be completed by early 2028, consolidating a leap in the company’s industrial capacity in Brazil.

As a result, the Rondonópolis unit is expected to rank among the largest soybean crushing facilities in the world, both in volume and logistical integration.

In addition to the productive increase, the expansion is also likely to modernize industrial processes, incorporating more efficient technologies in processing and utilizing soybean derivatives, although technical details have not been officially disclosed.

Rondonópolis consolidates as a strategic agro-industrial pole

Rondonópolis, located about 215 kilometers from Cuiabá, already plays a strategic role in the Brazilian agribusiness chain, being recognized as an important hub for the production, storage, and transportation of grains.

The municipality has relevant logistical infrastructure, including railways and warehouses, which facilitates the flow of commodities.

With the new investment, the city is moving towards a more industrialized profile within the agricultural sector, no longer acting solely as a producer of raw materials.

The presence of large industrial plants contributes to diversifying the local economy and increasing the added value of production.

According to information from the municipal administration, the expansion of COFCO is expected to generate indirect economic impacts, such as stimulating the supplier chain, increasing demand for services, and strengthening regional trade, although detailed employment figures have not been officially confirmed.

COFCO’s strategy reinforces presence in Brazilian agribusiness

COFCO is one of the leading companies in the food and agribusiness sector with Chinese state control, operating internationally in the origination, processing, and marketing of agricultural commodities.

The investment in Brazil follows a strategy of approaching the main soybean-producing hubs in the world.

The country occupies a central position in this planning, being the largest global exporter of oilseeds and one of the main suppliers to the Chinese market.

By expanding its industrial structure in Brazilian territory, the company increases its operational efficiency and strengthens its global supply capacity.

In recent years, the company has also expanded its logistical presence, including investments in ports and hiring professionals in Brazil, indicating a long-term strategy aimed at consolidating operations in the country.

Soy industrialization gains strength in Brazil

COFCO’s advancement in Rondonópolis reflects a broader trend in the national agribusiness, which seeks to increase the industrialization of agricultural production.

Instead of exporting only raw grains, the focus is shifting towards transforming raw materials into products with higher added value.

Derivatives such as soybean meal, primarily used in animal feed, vegetable oil, and biodiesel are becoming increasingly relevant in this context.

This process strengthens the internal production chain and expands the sector’s economic impact within the country.

By concentrating production, processing, and logistics in the same region, the model adopted in Rondonópolis exemplifies this integration, considered strategic to increase Brazil’s competitiveness in the international market.

New investment cycle reinforces local economic transformation

COFCO’s announcement comes amid a broader cycle of investments in the municipality.

In recent months, a billion-dollar project focused on corn ethanol production was also announced, significantly increasing the volume of private investments in the city.

This set of initiatives points to a transformation in the local economic profile, with greater diversification and strengthening of the agribusiness.

The combination of large-scale agricultural production and growing industrial capacity tends to position Rondonópolis as one of the main centers of the sector in Latin America.

The expansion of the COFCO unit reinforces this movement by connecting production, processing, and export in a single hub, expanding the region’s strategic relevance in the global food and renewable energy landscape.
