A Brazilian City Was Chosen to Host the Scala AI City, a Megaproject That Could Attract R$ 500 Billion in Investments and Generate Thousands of Jobs in the Technology Sector.

A small city in the south of Brazil is about to become the next technological epicenter of Latin America, with a billion-dollar investment that promises to completely change the economic and digital landscape of the country.

In an increasingly AI-dependent world, Brazil may finally take a leap that positions it as one of the main global technology hubs.

At the center of this revolution is the ambitious project of Scala AI City, an initiative that brings together the state government and Scala Data Centers.

The initial investment of R$ 3 billion could reach the impressive mark of R$ 500 billion over the coming years, according to the state government, transforming the small Eldorado do Sul, in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, into a strategic point for the development of digital infrastructure and attracting thousands of jobs to the state.

Eldorado do Sul: The City Chosen for the Future

The choice of Eldorado do Sul was not random.

Located just a few kilometers from the capital, Porto Alegre, the city offers a rare combination of natural disaster resilience, ample electricity supply, and possibilities for real estate expansion.

Moreover, its proximity to Scala’s SPOAPA01 data center in Porto Alegre facilitates the implementation of low-latency infrastructure, which could be interconnected to the Malbec submarine cable, connecting Brazil and Argentina.

This strategic choice aims to serve both the domestic market and other countries in Latin America, placing Eldorado do Sul in a privileged position.

According to Ernani Polo, Secretary of Economic Development of Rio Grande do Sul, the state stands out as an attractive alternative for technological investments, favored by its proximity to Mercosur countries, enhancing commercial and technological exchange with other nations in the region.

The Promise of Economic and Social Transformation

The construction of Scala AI City will not only bring technological advances; it represents an opportunity for economic and social revitalization for Eldorado do Sul and surrounding areas.

In the first phase of the project, more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created in areas such as construction, energy, and telecommunications.

These new job opportunities will strengthen the local economy, while the entry of technology companies is expected to foster an innovative ecosystem in the region.

Marcos Peigo, CEO of Scala Data Centers, emphasizes that the project goes beyond technological development, contributing to the economic recovery of Rio Grande do Sul.

“We are elevating Brazil to a new technological level while boosting the local economy,” he stated.

A Technological Giant with Unprecedented Capacity in Latin America

Scala AI City is already born with immense technological potential. The city’s initial capacity will be 54 Megawatts (MW), but expansion could take this number to 4,750 MW, making it the largest data center in Latin America.

Cutting-edge technologies, such as liquid cooling, will be employed to ensure significantly higher energy efficiency, essential to support the infrastructure required for artificial intelligence and other high-demand applications.

According to Scala Data Centers, the project will be developed with FutureProof design, allowing for the installation of racks for intensive loads, facilitating AI training and other complex operations.

This enterprise places Brazil on a global competitive level in the technology sector and attracts the attention of multinational companies.

Scala AI City and Its Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is one of the pillars of the project.

All data centers in Scala AI City will be operated with 100% renewable energy and high-efficiency systems, achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of a maximum of 1.2, the lowest in Latin America.

Additionally, the Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) will be zero, eliminating water use in cooling systems, an important innovation in the context of climate change and the preservation of natural resources.

With a focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), Scala Data Centers aims to attract investors interested in sustainable projects, while also demonstrating a commitment to responsible business practices.

These sustainable aspects represent a differential, considering that environmental concern is increasingly at the center of global business decisions.

Global Connectivity and Digital Integration

The location of Eldorado do Sul and access to submarine cables transform Scala AI City into a direct connection with major technology hubs, such as São Paulo and Buenos Aires.

This factor will be decisive in positioning Brazil as a strategic player in the market for artificial intelligence and data center services, capitalizing on the growing demand for these services in an increasingly expanding digital market.

According to experts, the city has the potential to attract multinationals and establish itself as a key point for operations in Latin America.

This initiative aligns with the digital transformation that Brazil is undergoing, driven by the adoption of technologies by companies and governments.

Scala AI City: A Horizon of Opportunities for Brazil

With a planned expansion horizon for the coming decades, Scala AI City promises not only to revolutionize the Brazilian digital market but to consolidate the country as a leader in technology in Latin America.

The economic impact and the creation of thousands of jobs are just the beginning of this transformation, which could set new standards for development and attract even more international investments.

But is Brazil really ready to take on the role of protagonist in the technology sector, or does it still face challenges that could delay this ambitious project?
