Trong Dong Project Integrates Sports and Commercial Complex Inspired by the Dong Son Drum, Aiming to Host Major Events, Shows, and Festivals, Even Without Confirmed World Cup or Olympics in the Near Future

Vietnam has officially launched an ambitious project to elevate its sports infrastructure. The country has begun work on the Trong Dong stadium, which aims to become the largest in the world in terms of seating capacity and a symbol of a new urban and economic phase.

Largest Stadium in the World: A Stadium Designed to Impress

Construction started in December, with an expected completion date in August 2028. The stadium will cost R$ 185 billion and have the capacity to host 135,000 people, a figure that will place it at the top of the global rankings.

Even without the confirmation of major events such as the World Cup or Olympics, the project is progressing rapidly and has clear long-term goals.

Sports and Commercial Complex

The Trong Dong will be part of a large sports and commercial complex, budgeted at over 925 trillion VDN, equivalent to about R$ 185 billion at current exchange rates.

The total area of the multi-sport complex will be 4 million square meters, integrated into the so-called Olympic Sports City, which will occupy 90 million square meters.

Cultural Inspiration and Modern Structure

The stadium’s design is inspired by the Dong Son, a sacred drum that symbolizes the ancient Vietnamese civilization and represents community spirit, strength, and longevity.

The arena will be luxurious, featuring a retractable roof, and is designed to function as a multi-purpose space, also hosting concerts, festivals, and other large-scale events.

Comparison with Other Giant Stadiums

With a capacity for 135,000 spectators, the Trong Dong will surpass the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in South Korea, which holds 114,000 people.

It will also exceed the Hassan II Stadium in Morocco, still under construction and designed for the 2030 World Cup, with a projected capacity of 115,000 people.

This plan reinforces Vietnam’s strategy to position itself to host major events in the future, even without a defined calendar at this time.
