The Positions That Can Be Created by Petrobras Will Be Individual Advisers for Each of Its 11 Counselors
Petrobras’ board of directors has presented an internal proposal to evaluate the hiring of individual advisers for each of its eleven counselors, with salaries estimated between R$ 35 thousand and R$ 90 thousand, according to sources from the state-owned company. These positions would be appointed freely, and the remuneration would be defined by the board itself, according to the CNN website.
In addition to the proposal to create commissioned positions, there was also a request for Petrobras to pay for oil and gas courses for the counselors. These requests were made internally by appointees of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, namely the Secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, Pietro Sampaio Mendes, who also chairs Petrobras’ board, and the Secretary of Geology, Mining, and Mineral Transformation of the ministry, Vitor Saback.
Justification for the Requests
According to sources close to the two appointees, Petrobras’ proposal aims to provide specialized advice to deepen the analysis of the company’s projects. Regarding the courses, allies argue that they are necessary to assist in Petrobras’ major initiative to promote the energy transition, requiring continuous improvement from the counselors.

Internal sources at Petrobras, however, expressed surprise at the requests presented. Firstly, due to the costs involved, as the estimate is that each of the adviser positions would have a remuneration between R$ 35 thousand and R$ 90 thousand. Secondly, because the eleven counselors already have advisory bodies that assist them in their decision-making, comprising six committees and a total of 27 people.
Analysis Underway
The requests are under analysis by Petrobras, and it is expected that by the next board meeting in August, there will already be a response on the matter. It is worth noting that the board should not have difficulty approving the measure, as six of its eleven members have connections with the government.
CNN contacted Petrobras seeking details about the proposals, such as the number of advisory positions to be created, the expected remuneration, and whether there is already a decision from the company on the matter. The company was also asked about the justification for counselors to take courses in the area, funded by the state-owned company. However, Petrobras opted not to comment on the subject. The Ministry of Mines and Energy also did not comment on the topic.
