Comgás Interlinks Pipelines in Mogi das Cruzes, Suzano, and Guararema to Strengthen Network, Ensuring Uninterrupted Supply and Reduced Environmental Impact.
Comgás is investing in the connection of pipelines between Mogi das Cruzes, Suzano, and Guararema. This project aims to strengthen the distribution network and ensure a continuous supply of natural gas. These infrastructure improvements guarantee a lower environmental impact, benefiting the region with greater reliability in the services provided by Comgás.
As the main gas distributor in the region, Comgás plays a crucial role in maintaining and expanding the natural gas network. The natural gas company is committed to sustainable development and providing high-quality service. The improvements aim to meet growing demand and increase system resilience, promoting greater integration between the benefiting cities.
Importance of Comgás Distribution System
Comgás, recognized as the largest gas distributor in Latin America, is undertaking an important project to interlink the natural gas distribution system, which supplies the municipalities of Mogi das Cruzes and Suzano, to the system that serves the region of Guararema, Jacareí, and São José dos Campos. This project is configured as an essential network reinforcement operation by Comgás, providing the Mogi das Cruzes region with two distinct sources of supply.

Benefits of the New Interlinking Project
This initiative not only ensures greater operational safety but also guarantees an uninterrupted supply*, in addition to increasing the capacity to serve new consumers. In Mogi das Cruzes, Comgás currently has 500 km of pipelines in operation, supplying piped gas to over 33,500 households, 380 commercial establishments, five CNG stations, and 32 industries. Until now, this region had been supplied exclusively by a main pipeline originating from Suzano.
Infrastructure Investments
With an investment of R$50 million, the interlinking project between Mogi das Cruzes and Guararema is expected to be completed by December 2024. The new underground pipeline will have a length of 24 km. In the urban area, excavation and installation operations are being carried out in a stretch of 8 km, which begins near the military base Tiro de Guerra in Mogi das Cruzes, crosses Avenida Francisco Rodrigues Filho and Rodovia Henrique Eroles until reaching its completion in Guararema.
Construction Methodology for Reduced Environmental Impact
To reduce disruptions to the local community, Comgás adopts a non-destructive construction method aimed at minimizing negative impacts on the daily lives of the region, shortening the time of reinforcement works, and mitigating damage to pavements. Through precision technology, specific points of the urban pavement are opened, spaced between 100 and 150 meters, allowing the passage of the necessary horizontal drilling tools for the installation of the new piping. After the completion of the work, the natural gas company restores the road or sidewalk to the pre-existing standard, ensuring the quality of the local infrastructure.

The use of piped natural gas is becoming increasingly popular around the world, whether in homes, businesses, industries, or institutions.
Environmental and Safety Advantages
In addition to providing a lower environmental impact compared to other fossil fuels, its use offers convenience and safety, as it is supplied continuously and uninterruptedly – eliminating the need for transportation efforts, exchange, or storage. Natural gas, being lighter than air, dissipates easily in case of a leak, reducing the risk of accidents. Comgás, as one of the main players in this sector, continues to invest in its infrastructure to ensure an uninterrupted and secure supply, also contributing to lower environmental impact.
