Communication Movements in the National Front of Energy Consumers

Another relevant movement announced by the National Front of Energy Consumers is the pursuit of recognition for parliamentarians who advocate for energy consumers. It is essential that these movements adopt transparent, objective criteria compatible with good governance, aiming to ensure the quality of decisions made on behalf of society and consumers, both at the federal and state regulatory levels.

Transparency is a determining factor in ensuring the quality of decisions made on behalf of society. The lack of transparency is cited as one of the reasons for the low participation of parliamentarians in recent decisions, such as in the case of the Offshore Wind Project and the contracting of thermal plants running on natural gas and coal, which were deemed unnecessary and costly.

Additionally, there was an extension of sectoral subsidies and the contracting of a thermal plant powered by hydrogen derived from ethanol, located in northeastern Brazil. It is clear that traditional communication was ineffective in this context, as there was an extensive proliferation of editorials and articles in both print and television media that did not result in a decisive impact on the National Congress.

It remains to be seen whether consumers, who succeeded in traditional communication, managed to expand their discourse to other spheres and mobilize parliamentarians to defend their causes. Transparency and openness to debate are fundamental in ensuring that decisions affecting society are less contested. Engagement and active participation are still the best options for everyday decisions, especially in the context of the energy market.
