Geely Leads Sales In China With Electric Xingyuan And Aims For Brazil With Support From Renault; SUV Xingyue L Also Surpasses Tesla And BYD
Geely secured the lead among the best-selling passenger cars in China in April 2025. The standout was the Geome Xingyuan, an electric hatchback that sold 36,119 units in the month.
The model surpassed heavy competitors such as the BYD Dolphin Mini and the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Year-to-date, the Xingyuan has reached 125,334 units, consolidating its strength in the entry-level electric segment.

The strategy may be favored by the partnership established with Renault, aimed at developing hybrid and electric vehicles in the country. This alliance may facilitate adapting the model to the Brazilian market.
SUV Xingyue L Surpasses Tesla And BYD
Another Geely model also stood out in the rankings. The SUV Xingyue L was the best-selling sports utility vehicle in April, with 23,658 units.
It outperformed established names like the BYD Song Plus and the Tesla Model Y, which had been alternating in sales leadership in previous months. Year-to-date, the Xingyue L has already reached 103,541 units.
Growth Of The Chinese Vehicle Market
The Chinese automotive market closed April with 1.755 million units sold. Of the total, 821 thousand were hatches or sedans, 847 thousand were SUVs, and 86 thousand were minivans (MPVs). The growth trend of electric and electrified cars remains strong, particularly for popular models and local brands.
MPVs Sell Less, But BYD Leads With Denza D9
In the MPV segment, the leadership went to the Denza D9, which belongs to the BYD group. The model reached 9,045 units in the month, surpassing the Toyota Sienna and the Voyah Dreamer.
Despite this, sales volumes of this type of vehicle are still much lower compared to hatches and SUVs.
Local Industry Shows Strength Against Global Rivals
The numbers reinforce the advancement of Chinese manufacturers, which gain ground in categories dominated by global companies. Geely’s presence in the three main categories — hatches, SUVs, and MPVs — shows the breadth of its strategy.
The performance against competitors like BYD, Tesla, and Toyota points to a new phase of competition in the global automotive sector.
Geely May Strengthen Brazilian Market With Affordable Electric Cars
The possible arrival of the Geome Xingyuan in Brazil, combined with the alliance with Renault, may pave the way for more options for affordable electric cars in the country. Geely’s advancement is yet another sign that the electric vehicle market is becoming increasingly competitive and diversified.
