The Works on the Xingu Bridge, a Crucial Construction for the Trans-Amazonian Highway, Have Officially Begun. This Project Represents a Significant Advance in Transportation Infrastructure in the Region, Connecting Anapu to Vitória do Xingu, Pará.
The Xingu Bridge, strategically located near the Belo Monte Dam, is a fundamental project for the Pará region, linking Anapu to Vitória do Xingu. With a total length of 700 meters and a cable-stayed free span of 424 meters, the bridge will facilitate the transportation of people, cargo, and equipment, replacing the current ferry system and significantly improving logistics in the area.
Construction activities began in late 2023, with the initial earthworks. The bridge project, which is cable-stayed, features an innovative architectural design, with two masts located at the ends of the structure, from which the steel cables that support the central section extend.
Construction Details
The design of the Xingu Bridge is comparable to the Integration Bridge, which connects Foz do Iguaçu to Presidente Franco, Paraguay. The main differences lie in the architectural design of the masts and the structural aspects. The bridge is designed to maintain the navigability of the Xingu River and has a significant river depth, making the construction of pillars in the central span unfeasible.

While in Brazil Ferrogrão has been waiting for 40 years, China has drilled through 19 seismic faults and dug a 34 km tunnel under mountains to build the world’s most difficult railway in 14 years…
The works include steps such as land leveling, excavation, loading and transport of materials, and compaction. The supervision of the works is the responsibility of the consortium STE Encon. So far, approximately 1.88% of the works have been completed.
Investment and Adjustments
Initially budgeted at R$ 289.9 million, the project has undergone adjustments, increasing the total cost to around R$ 379 million. These adjustments are common in large infrastructure projects due to changes in the design during execution.
The construction of the Xingu Bridge is a milestone for transportation infrastructure in the Amazon region. Its completion will bring significant benefits in terms of mobility and economic development, positively impacting the lives of local communities and all who rely on the Trans-Amazonian Highway for transportation and trade. This project is an example of how strategic investments in infrastructure can transform regions, promoting growth and sustainable development.
