Copa Energia Strengthens Presence in the Energy Market Focused on Cleaner Solutions, Aiming for Energy Transition and Expanding Access to Natural Gas in Brazil.
Copa Energia, a Latin American leader in the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), reinforces its commitment to innovation and sustainability by acquiring 36% of GNLink, a company operating in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) sector. This operation is still pending approval from CADE and represents an important step to diversify the Brazilian energy matrix.
Change in the Portfolio: Arrival of LNG
Following the acquisition, Copa Energia will now offer LNG in its portfolio — now composed of LPG, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), biomethane, and LNG.
This fuel, noted for emitting less CO₂ and local pollutants compared to other fossil fuels, is consolidating as an energy transition option, especially in areas without gas pipelines.

Iran said that the Strait of Hormuz is open, but in practice only 1 non-Iranian oil tanker managed to cross in 24 hours — before the blockade, 100 ships passed per day.

Petrobras completes 1,300 hours of work and 15 km of subsea lines to connect the Búzios 90 well to the P-79 — the platform is ready to produce 180,000 barrels per day and is just awaiting ANP approval.

Iran declares the Strait of Hormuz completely open this Friday, and the price of oil plummets nearly 10% in a few hours — the largest drop since the beginning of the conflict.

While the world was paying more for fuel, the 100 largest oil companies on the planet raked in an extra $23 billion in just 30 days of blockage in the Strait of Hormuz.
The company’s president, Pedro Zahran Turqueto, explains that the goal is to provide “cleaner fuels that contribute to reducing carbon emissions and accelerate the adoption of renewable sources,” emphasizing the importance of the partnership with GNLink.
With two liquefaction plants currently operational, in Barra Bonita (PR) and Itabuna (BA), and a third under construction in Carnaúba (RN), GNLink is consolidating itself as a key player in the LNG market.
With the investment from Copa Energia, the plants intend to expand their capacity to 292,000 Nm³/day by the end of 2025, according to Marcelo Rodrigues, CEO of GNLink:
“Our expectation is to reach an operational capacity of 292,000 Nm³/day by the end of 2025, which will make GNLink the third largest producer and distributor of liquefied natural gas in Brazil. The participation of Copa Energia will be essential for us to fulfill our mission: to take gas where it has yet to reach.”
Despite the negotiation, the investor Lorinvest, owned by the Lorentzen family, continues to hold 64% of the shareholding control and remains a partner in developing the project.
Partnership with National Impact
Christian Lorentzen, vice president of Lorinvest, sees Copa Energia’s entry as a strategic accelerator:
“Copa Energia’s entry helps boost the growth of GNLink… We are united to accelerate this journey.”
The investment will be crucial for advancing LNG projects, enhancing the ability to serve regions without infrastructure.
Copa Energia: Almost 70 Years of Operation and Over 30 Million Customers
Founded nearly seven decades ago, Copa Energia distributes LPG under the brands Copagaz and Liquigás, serving over 30 million customers through a network of around 13,000 resellers and more than 3,700 employees.
The entry into the LNG market reaffirms its purpose: to be a complete counter of energy solutions that combines tradition, innovation, and sustainability.
With formalization, still subject to regulatory approval, the partnership between Copa Energia and GNLink promises to significantly expand access to modern energy in Brazil.
The initiative reinforces the importance of cleaner sources, promoting the development of national infrastructure and aligning the country with the future of the global energy matrix.
