Correios concentrate R$ 10 billion in debt guaranteed by the National Treasury, equivalent to almost 78% of the total guaranteed for state-owned companies, after a loan contracted with five banks to pay salaries, court-ordered payments, and other overdue obligations of the company.
Correios appear as the state-owned company with the largest volume of debt guaranteed by the National Treasury, with R$ 10 billion in guaranteed loans. The amount represents 77.6% of all credit operations for which the Treasury acts as guarantor, according to data released this Tuesday (27/1).
Correios concentrate largest debt guaranteed by the Treasury
The information is part of the Quarterly Report on Guaranteed Credit Operations (RQG), referring to the third four-month period of 2025. The document was released by the National Treasury and presents data on loan guarantees.
In 2025, Correios took out the largest loan guaranteed by the Treasury. The operation was intended to pay off the state-owned company’s overdue obligations, including salaries, court-ordered payments, and debts.

Correios loan involves five banks
The loan contracted by Correios had a total value of R$ 12 billion. Despite this, the Treasury report mentions a guarantee of R$ 10 billion for the operation.
The contract was signed at the end of December with a group of five banks. Bradesco, Itaú, Santander, Caixa, and Banco do Brasil are participating in the agreement.
The operation will last 15 years, with a term until 2040. The period was defined in the agreement signed between Correios and the financial institutions.
Other state-owned companies appear in the report
In addition to Correios, two other state-owned companies have loans guaranteed by the Union through the National Treasury. Eletronuclear appears with the second largest volume, of R$ 2.679 billion.
Eletronuclear’s participation corresponds to 0.8% of all Treasury guarantees. In third place is Eletrobrás, with R$ 197.3 million, equivalent to 0.1% of the guarantees.
The total amount of loans guaranteed for state-owned companies by the Treasury is R$ 12.87 billion. As Correios account for R$ 10 billion of this amount, the state-owned company’s participation corresponds to 77.7% of the total.
