A Crisis Threatens Brazilian Postal Services: Third-Party Companies for Correios Have Gone Weeks Without Payment and Are Considering Completely Halting Deliveries
A group of 31 carriers providing services to Correios threatens to suspend their operations. The reason is the lack of payment from the state-owned company.
The companies claim that payments have not been made regularly. In a letter sent to the president of Correios, Fabiano Silva dos Santos, they demand the settlement of overdue amounts.
The document was sent on Thursday (20). The original deadline for payment was Monday (24), but there was an extension of 72 hours.

Correios Admit Technical Problem
In a statement, Correios acknowledged that there was a technical problem with payments. The state-owned company informed that payments are now being processed. They also assured that deliveries continue as normal throughout the country.
“Correios faced a technical issue in paying some suppliers, but payments are now being made. It is important to highlight that deliveries across the country have not been affected and are proceeding as usual,” says the official text.
Historic Deficit Intensifies Crisis
The companies’ demand occurs amid a financial crisis. In 2024, federal state-owned companies recorded a deficit of R$ 6.7 billion. Correios leads this deficit, with a loss of R$ 3.2 billion, according to data from the Central Bank.
In light of the situation, Deputy Zé Vitor (PL-MG) requested the creation of a Temporary External Commission in the Chamber. The idea is to monitor the deficit in state-owned companies and propose measures to improve the management of public resources.
