Average Price of Ethanol and Gasoline Rises in January; Ethanol at R$ 4.34 and Gasoline at R$ 6.31. Ethanol Remains a Cost-Effective and Sustainable Option.

At the beginning of 2025, the mining landscape is experiencing significant changes, with commodity prices fluctuating considerably. The search for added value has never been more intense, pressuring companies to reassess their rates and operating costs. Analysts expect these price fluctuations to directly impact financial results at the end of the first quarter. This market movement aligns with the growing demand for more sustainable practices and efficient fuel stations in the sector.

Investments in automation and digital technologies stand out as key strategies adopted by mining and extraction industries to face these variations. Companies have rapidly adapted, focusing on innovation to mitigate the impact on production costs. The mining sector is fully committed to the energy transition, aiming to reduce expenses and enhance return on investment. Companies are focusing on sustainable practices to ensure competitiveness and relevance in the global market.

How Mineral Exploration and the Extractive Industry Transform Costs into New Values

In February 2025, studies show that export tariffs are also subject to reevaluation, reflecting global economic instability. Tariff changes directly influence corporate competitiveness in the global market. An analysis published by the Brazilian Mining Agency highlights that during this period, the cost of basic inputs rose by about 3.5%, mainly driven by fluctuations in oil prices and other fossil fuels involved in the transportation and operation of mining companies.

In the context of operations, mining companies are seeking alternatives to minimize the impacts of these tariff variations. Rapid and effective adaptation has been a crucial factor for companies that wish not only to survive but to thrive in the current market conditions. Strategies such as diversification of energy sources and investment in sustainable infrastructure are essential for maintaining the financial health of companies. Mineral exploration is taking this moment to rethink its role in the economic chain, adjusting to become more resilient.

Finally, experts from the University of Ouro Preto assert that sustainability not only reduces long-term costs but also elevates the market value of these organizations. This strategic vision places the mining sector towards a greener and economically balanced future. ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) initiatives are being reinforced, bringing a new perspective to the extractive industry, redefining the understanding of the true value of operations and ensuring economic and environmental prosperity.

Price Evolution at Fuel Stations

The average price of gasoline continued its upward trajectory, showing a noticeable increase during the mentioned period. The fuel reached fuel stations in Brazil at an average of R$ 6.31, reflecting an increase of 0.32% compared to the average recorded in December. This data comes from the latest analysis of the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), a survey that focuses on the behavior of transaction values at fuel stations, offering a very accurate average.

Regional Analysis and Price Trends

Fuel prices continue the upward trend identified by the IPTL at the end of the previous year. This is due to market movements and economic factors that influence price determination. In the regional analysis, it was observed that both types of fuels followed the national average, increasing in January for most customers across various regions of Brazil. However, in the North and South regions, gasoline maintained the same average rate as December, as noted by Douglas Pina, General Director of Mobility at Edenred Brazil.

Price Variations in the Regions

The Central-West region led the increase in rates for both types: ethanol rose by 2.38%, while gasoline had an increase of 1.43%. Thus, the average costs in the area were R$ 4.30 for ethanol and R$ 6.39 for gasoline. Ethanol presented the lowest average price at fuel stations in the Southeast, reaching R$ 4.25, even after a growth of 1.43% in the region; the most economical gasoline in January was also found in the Southeast, with an average price of R$ 6.18, despite a 0.49% increase compared to December.

State Comparisons on Fuel Costs

In the North, the highest average prices were found, with gasoline at R$ 6.81 and ethanol at R$ 5.01, highlighting an increase of 0.40%. In the comparison between states, ethanol recorded its largest decrease in Rio Grande do Norte, with a drop of 1.05% compared to December, resulting in a price of R$ 4.71 in January. On the other hand, the most significant increase in ethanol was in Paraíba, reaching R$ 4.36, an increase of 4.56%. The most affordable ethanol was in São Paulo at R$ 4.12, even after a rise of 1.73%. Amapá had the most expensive ethanol at R$ 5.39, unchanged since December.

Gasoline Price Variations Across the Country

Rio Grande do Norte also experienced a sharp decline in gasoline prices, down by 1.24%, resulting in an average price of R$ 6.39. Meanwhile, the Federal District observed the largest increase in fuel prices, by 4.22%, raising the average price to R$ 6.42. Rio Grande do Sul stood out for offering the cheapest gasoline: R$ 6.10, after a decrease of 0.16% compared to December. Acre, on the other hand, increased its gasoline rate by 0.13%, becoming the most expensive in Brazil in January, with an average price of R$ 7.42.

Ethanol as an Economic and Ecological Fuel

Even with an increase in the average price, ethanol remained the most economically advantageous option for a large part of Brazilians in January, especially for consumers in the Southeast and Central-West regions. In addition to being financially more viable, ethanol also contributes to environmental sustainability due to its lower emissions of pollutants, promoting a more sustainable mobility. Pina emphasizes the importance of this alternative.

IPTL: Reliability and Innovation in Monitoring

The IPTL is based on refueling operations conducted at 21,000 accredited Edenred Ticket Log stations, utilizing a robust data science infrastructure that consolidates the behavior of prices from the transactions performed at the stations, offering a highly reliable average. This is due to the management of over 1 million vehicles by the brand, with a remarkable average of eight transactions per second. Edenred Ticket Log, part of the Mobility business line of Edenred Brazil, has over 30 years of experience, constantly adapting to the needs of its customers with modern and innovative solutions to simplify daily processes.
