Starting This Month, The Fiat Strada, With An Impressive 130 Horsepower And 20.4 Kgfm Of Torque, Will Be Available In 8 African Countries
The iconic compact pickup from Fiat, the Strada, known for its strong presence in the Brazilian market, is about to expand its global boundaries. After a decade focused exclusively on South America, the latest iteration of the Strada, launched in 2020 with a double cab and four doors, will land in eight African countries starting this November, according to AutoEsporte.
Cape Verde, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Madagascar, Nigeria, and Rwanda will be the new destinations for this compact pickup.
Turbo Power: Fiat Strada Heading to Africa
In a strategic move, Fiat recently introduced turbocharged versions of the compact pickup. The Ranch and Ultra configurations now feature a robust Turbo 200 engine, a 1.0 turboflex that delivers impressive 130 horsepower and 20.4 kgfm of torque. The uncertainty lies in the choice of configurations that will be exported to these African countries, given that the Strada offers seven versions in the Brazilian market, some still equipped with naturally aspirated engines.

Suzuki Fronx emerges as the “compact coupe SUV” that Brazil doesn’t have: priced around R$ 37,000 in a tax-free conversion, the model has a hybrid version, 1.0 turbo engine, bold design, and the price of a popular car in India.

Not every car with a battery is truly electric; some hybrids never run solely on electric power, and since 2025, ABVE stopped counting mild hybrids as electrified, and these differences change everything when buying.
The Fiat Strada’s venture beyond South American borders is not unprecedented. Between 2000 and 2015, the first generation of the pickup was present on various continents. During that time, the Strada underwent several redesigns, offering options for single, extended, double cabs, and even with three doors. With various engines, including the well-known 1.4 fire and the 1.8 E.torQ, used in models like the Jeep Renegade and Fiat Toro, the Strada solidified its global presence, now in Africa.
Diesel Engine on Italian Soil
A curious chapter in the international trajectory of the Strada was its marketing with a diesel engine in some markets, such as Italy. Equipped with the 1.9 JTD and 1.3 Multijet diesel engines, the pickup stood out for its fuel efficiency, achieving averages close to 19 km/l.
However, this version did not reach Brazil due to local requirements, which mandate 4×4 traction and a payload capacity greater than one ton for diesel vehicles.
Boosting Exports in Challenging Times
The decision to export the Fiat Strada to Africa comes at a crucial moment for the Brazilian automotive industry. In light of the recent 26.9% drop in exports, as revealed by the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), the Strada, the best-selling vehicle in the Brazilian market with 98,511 units sold this year, emerges as a key player to boost export numbers and reverse the trend of decline in Brazilian vehicle exports.
The presence of the pickup in Africa represents not only geographic expansion but also a strategy to strengthen the position of the Brazilian automotive industry on the international stage.
