After This First Step in Macaé, Now We Just Need the Urban Zoning Law to Start Activities at the Port

“The port is ours!” This is the phrase that Macaé and neighboring cities have been waiting to shout out. The current mayor, Dr. Aluízio Junior, finally understood the community’s plea for an immediate response regarding the release of the Barreto Port.

The mayor approved the law that definitively resolved the environmental problem that prevented the project’s progress. With less than 2 months to the Brazil Offshore 2017 fair, this news drove oil and gas operators crazy!

Now we only depend on one final signature: The Urban Zoning Law.

The Click Petróleo e Gás will explain in an illustrative way why this port is taking so long to come to fruition and what is preventing Aluízio from signing this decision.

I don’t know if you know or have heard of the Santana archipelago, which is nothing more than that set of islands that we can see very well when we are at Praia dos Cavaleiros, on Barra beach, and along the entire coastline of Macaé. The fact is that this set of islands is environmentally protected within a radius of 15 km, and the Barreto Port project was within this radius, making the undertaking unfeasible until a few days ago!

Now that is in the past. With the official deliberation, part of the area of this archipelago can now be used for traffic and mooring of vessels, offshore activities, and preventive non-pollution systems for the environmental area.

What remains now is the deliberation of the urban zoning law, which will transform the residential area of Barreto into an industrial zone. The population of Macaé is hopeful that the mayor will be sensible and will sign this law once and for all.

With the Brazil Offshore fair just around the corner, this is the chance to restore Macaé as one of the giants in the oil and gas industry in the country.

This milestone signals a new era in the city’s history; after all, our Princess of the Atlantic has already enriched many people from the city, other municipalities, states, and even abroad. Now it’s our turn to give back.
