Rita Coelho, who is one of the representatives of the Macaé Porto Já movement, revealed that Macaé no longer has conditions to dock large ships because the Imbetiba port is very silted, and dredging work was not done in a timely manner. Additionally, the Porto do Açú accommodates about 47 vessels at a time, compared to 6 at Imbetiba, this among others was one of the main reasons for the migration.

The construction of this project would immediately generate about 4,000 jobs just in construction, and once it is ready, 1,000 direct jobs would also be created within the port, returning purchasing power to the residents of Macaé, resuming offshore operations in the city and neighboring municipalities.
