Partnership Between Embraer and EDP Brazil Aims for Research on Electric Aircraft for the Development of New Technology Solutions
On the 20th, Embraer – a Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, and EDP Brazil, from the electric sector, announced a partnership for the research of electric aircraft. The partnership contributes to the acquisition of energy storage and charging technology solutions for demonstration aircraft with 100% electric propulsion technology. The prototype is under testing and is expected to make its first flight in 2021.

The partnership between the two companies will help study the applicability of high-voltage batteries in electric propulsion systems for small aircraft, as well as evaluate their main operational characteristics, such as weight, efficiency and power quality, thermal control and management, charging and discharging, and operational safety cycle.
According to the aircraft manufacturer, the partnership is a continuation of the electrification project of aviation that Embraer initiated in cooperation with WEG in May 2019. In the partnership established with EDP, the scope is to study high-voltage energy storage as a complement to Embraer’s ongoing research.
