Jobs In Construction – Caged Registers 9 Months Of Hiring, With More Than 280 Thousand Vacancies In 2021

Ministry of Labor and Employment Revealed That, Only in September, About 24 Thousand Workers Were Hired for Positions in Civil Construction

Data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged) highlights a balance of 285.5 thousand new jobs in civil construction in 2021. The job openings from construction companies in the country hired 24 thousand workers, just in September. Currently, civil construction employs 2.5 million Brazilians.

This year, a professional in the field secured a job in the civil construction sector and received a promotion within 2 months. According to engineer Ruan Sampaio Rodrigues, “I was looking but hadn’t found anything yet, and then I wanted something that challenged me within production, an undertaking like this one here, it challenges you professionally – and when I had the opportunity, I accepted to embark on this mission.”

The undertaking is a new mall in Jacarepaguá, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. With an opening scheduled for next week, construction began in 2018, with periods of fluctuation amid the pandemic.

One thousand direct job positions are associated with the end of the works, and the expectation, when the doors open to consumers, is that eight thousand workers will be directly or indirectly linked to the mall.

Higher Earnings and Jobs in 2021

President of the Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry, José Carlos Martins, states that earnings may be even better this year and promises to generate job openings in civil construction.

According to the president, “We should hire around 350 to 400 thousand new workers with signed contracts. This is undoubtedly an excellent year, but to give you an idea, we would need eight years at this growth rate to reach the point we were at some time ago. But for that to happen, a series of factors are needed. And today we are very concerned about the rising costs of materials and also the interest rate.”

The impacts of civil construction expand and spread throughout the sector. In 2021, cement sales grew by 9.7%, with over 49.2 million tons sold, according to the Brazilian Association of Portland Cement (ABCP). The sale of bricks in the civil construction market soared 30%, and raw steel sales increased by 20%, hitting 27 million tons.

Rental of Machines and Equipment in the Sector Also Benefits

Those who rent machines and equipment for the civil construction sector also feel satisfied. General manager of a forklift rental company and other construction equipment, Maurício Amaral of Trimark, says that occupancy is nearing 70% of the company’s 2,000 units.

In an interview with CNN, Maurício reported: “We work with a very diverse fleet of equipment, aerial platforms, handlers, yellow line construction equipment such as backhoes, compactors, hydraulic excavators, and it’s precisely this market that is feeling this current ‘boom’ the most. There has been a turning point in the rental of these machines.”
