ANTT promotes auctions with a mining company in Bahia for the acquisition of Fiol's stretch, and believes that this project can improve the Bahian economy
In one of the auctions organized by ANTT this week, called Infra Week, a section of the West-East Integration Railroad – Fiol was auctioned, the company Bahia mining took without a premium last Thursday (8). The winner of the contest sponsored by ANTT, which will improve the Bahian economy, was Bahia Mineração, without premium and with a unique proposal, of R$ 32,7 million.

The project, which will be managed by Bahia Mineração for 35 years, is located in an important iron ore flow corridor in southwestern Bahia, connected to the Port of Ilhéus, and will enable the transport of grains from western Bahia to the terminal.
Investments in the Fiol da Bahia railroad
Bahia Mineração invests around R$ 3,3 billion in the economy of Bahia during the concession period. Of these, R$ 1,6 billion will be used to finish the work on the stretch, which is now 80% complete. In addition, Fiol's sub-concession will allow for around 55 new direct, indirect and income-effect job openings throughout the concession.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas says that the R$3 billion investment is a great gratification. He also highlighted that one of the objectives of the ministry is to rebalance the transport matrices in the country.
Tarcísio considers holding railroad auctions through ANTT emblematic and thanks Bahia Mineração, which has been believing in Brazil for 16 years, and now believing in the Bahian economy.
The Bahia Mineração railroad concession differs from privatization in that it involves a temporary transfer of control of a certain asset to the private sector. After the end of the defined period, the agreements may or may not be renewed by Bahia Mineração.
About the stretch of Fiol acquired by the company Bahia Minera
This stretch is 537 kilometers long between the cities of Ilhéus and Caetité and, according to ANTT, it is an important corridor for the flow of iron ore in the southwest of Bahia. The section will enable the transport of grains from the west of Bahia to the port, from the future concession of Section II, bringing improvements to the Bahian economy in this regard.
