Notable Growth In Photovoltaic Connections Surpasses Previous Marks
The photovoltaic solar energy sector in Brazil celebrates a new milestone by reaching 41 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity, with the Midwest playing a crucial role in this advancement. In the first three months of 2024, this region recorded a 10% increase in photovoltaic system installations compared to the total in 2020, reflecting the dynamism and potential for ongoing growth of solar energy in the area.
Regional Advance In Distributed Generation
From January to March, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) documented an impressive 34,760 new connections of photovoltaic systems in the Midwest, surpassing the 31,571 records for the entire year of 2020. As a result, the Federal District, Goiás, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul ended the quarter with about 348 thousand Distributed Generation (GD) units, accumulating a capacity of approximately 4.4 GW.
Distributed Generation, which encompasses both microgeneration and minigeneration of energy, occurs at or near the consumption site, as is the case with solar plants installed on residential and commercial lots or rooftops. This model not only strengthens energy independence but also promotes sustainability and energy efficiency.

Leadership In Capitals And Investment Opportunities
The capitals of the Midwest, including Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Goiânia, and Brasília, led the statistics, each with thousands of new connections. Cities like Dourados, Rondonópolis, Várzea Grande, Sinop, Anápolis, and Aparecida de Goiânia also stood out, demonstrating the widespread acceptance and implementation of solar energy in the region.
Túlio Fonseca, CEO of Energy Brasil, emphasizes that the growth of solar energy in the Midwest not only promotes savings and sustainability for consumers but also boosts the local economy and creates jobs. According to him, the increase in electricity demand driven by the flourishing agribusiness creates an ideal environment for investments in renewable energy infrastructure.
Those interested in capitalizing on this growing market may consider investing in photovoltaic plants. In this model, plants are built and then leased to specialized companies, generating financial returns for the owners. Claudio Ferreira and Márcia Pontes, franchisees of Energy Brasil in Goiânia, are examples of entrepreneurs exploring this opportunity. “We are building our first own plant in an old family soccer field, demonstrating to our clients how this investment works and its potential return,” reports Márcia.
