Remarkable growth in photovoltaic connections surpasses previous marks
The photovoltaic solar energy sector in Brazil celebrates a new milestone by reaching 41 gigawatts (GW) of installed power, with the Center-West playing a crucial role in this advancement. In the first three months of 2024, this region recorded a 10% increase in photovoltaic system installations compared to the 2020 total, reflecting the dynamism and continued growth potential of solar energy in the area.
Regional advancement in distributed generation
From January to March, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) documented an impressive 34.760 new connections of photovoltaic systems in the Center-West, surpassing the 31.571 records for the entire year 2020. As a result, the Federal District, Goiás, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul ended the quarter with around 348 thousand Distributed Generation (DG) units, accumulating a power of approximately 4,4 GW.
Distributed Generation, which encompasses both microgeneration and minigeneration of energy, occurs at or near the place of consumption, as is the case with solar plants installed on residential and commercial land or rooftops. This format not only strengthens energy independence but also promotes sustainability and energy efficiency.

Leadership in capitals and investment opportunities
The capitals of the Central-West, including Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Goiânia and Brasília, led the statistics, with thousands of new connections each. Cities such as Dourados, Rondonópolis, Várzea Grande, Sinop, Anápolis and Aparecida de Goiânia also stood out, demonstrating the wide acceptance and implementation of solar energy in the region.
Túlio Fonseca, CEO of Energy Brasil, emphasizes that the growth of solar energy in the Midwest not only promotes savings and sustainability for consumers, but also boosts the local economy and creates jobs. According to him, the increase in demand for electricity, driven by booming agribusiness, creates an ideal environment for investments in renewable energy infrastructure.
Those interested in capitalizing on this growing market may consider investing in photovoltaic plants. In this model, plants are built and then leased to specialized companies, generating financial returns for the owners. Claudio Ferreira and Márcia Pontes, Energy Brasil franchisees in Goiânia, are examples of entrepreneurs who are exploring this opportunity. “We are building our first own plant on an old family football field, demonstrating to our customers how it works and the potential return on this investment”, says Márcia.
