In A Decade, Piauí Transformed Its Honey Production Into A Case Of Success In The National Agriculture. The State Not Only Increased The Quantity Produced, But Also Quadrupled The Commercial Value Of The Product, Gaining Space In The Internal And External Market And Being A Few Steps Away From Leadership In The Brazilian Ranking.

Piauí Recorded An Expressive Leap In The Production And, Mainly, In The Economic Value Of Honey In The Last 10 Years.

According To The Municipal Livestock Survey (PPM 2023) By IBGE, Released This Thursday (19), The State Increased Its Production From 3,249.5 Tons In 2014 To 8,829.8 Tons In 2023.

The Increase Of 5,580.3 Tons Represents A Growth Of 171.7%, Making Piauí Jump From The 6th To The 2nd Position In The National Ranking.

Value Of Production Grows Over 400%

The Most Impressive Data Is In The Nominal Value Of Production. In 2014, The Honey Produced In Piauí Generated R$ 20.6 Million. In 2023, This Value Reached R$ 106.9 Million, A Growth Of 418.9% Over The Period.

In The National Scenario, The Increase Was Smaller: From R$ 315 Million To R$ 908 Million, An Increase Of 188.27%.

This Led To Piauí’s Share In The Total Value Of Honey Production In Brazil Reaching 11.77% In 2023.

The State Was Second Only To Rio Grande Do Sul, Which Produced 9,111.3 Tons, Surpassing Piauí By 281.5 Tons, A Difference Of Only 3.19%.

While The Production In Rio Grande Do Sul Represented 14.2% Of The National Total, Piauí Represented 13.8%.

Quality And Export Boost Results

Pedro Andrade, Head Of The Agricultural Research Section Of IBGE In Piauí, Highlights That Cooperativism Was One Of The Engines Of This Growth.

The Organization Of Producers Facilitated Both The Production And Commercialization, Allowing For Scale Gains And Better Market Access.

Another Decisive Factor Was The Technical Qualification Of Beekeepers. This Training Attracted Individuals And Companies From Other States To Piauí, Strengthening The Activity.

The High Quality Of Honey Also Made A Difference: About 80% Of The Production Is Exported, Taking Piauí’s Product To International Markets And Attracting Branches Of Honey Trading Companies To The State.

Highlighted Municipalities

Among Piauí’s Municipalities, São Raimundo Nonato Led In 2023, With 916.6 Tons, Followed By Picos, With 672.8 Tons. Together, They Accounted For Almost 18% Of The State Production.

São Raimundo Nonato Generated R$ 12.83 Million, Equivalent To 12% Of The Total Value Of The Honey Produced In Piauí.

Picos Registered R$ 6.66 Million, 6.23% Of The Total. Anísio De Abreu Also Stood Out, Reaching R$ 5.32 Million, Or 4.97% Of The State Revenue.

Market Projection

With Growth Above The National Average And Proximity In Volume To The Leader Rio Grande Do Sul, Piauí Establishes Itself As A Reference In Brazilian Beekeeping.

The Scenario Indicates That, If The Pace Of Expansion And Appreciation Is Maintained, The State May Compete For National Leadership In The Coming Years, Driven By Exports And Appreciation In The Internal Market.
